I've started listening to a lot of this recently. Just want to hear what kind of gear you have. I'm interested in experimenting with it but I'm trying not to break the bank in pedals.

I'm more of a blues guy, but I do enjoy playing ambient stuff as well.

Delay pedals are the best to bring out that type of sound, along with some reverb. With that you can do a lot. It's not like you need a shite load of expensive pedals.

For the My Bloody Valentine sound, and Alesis Midiverb II or Yamaha SPX90 on the reverse reverb setting coupled with a Jazzmaster or Jag with the floating trem.

Thanks for the info. I'll being playing a select strat through a deluxe reverb so the reverb should be covered. I've got a boss delay but from the looks of it Ill need to stack delays right?

You need loop pedals. They're not cheap, but you don't need new ones. Used. Always used.

I have a looper also, but i'm not very good with it. I have the boss looper…can't remember the model number. Some of what I read said i needed an analog delay. Does it really matter that much or could i just stack another digital?

I will do some atmospheric stuff from time to time, especially as intros to certain pieces of heavier music. Modulation effects are heavily used. I like running a delay in the loop (Carbon Copy) and then an MXR EVH Flanger, Fulltone Dejavibe, Analogman Chorus, Digitech RV7 Reverb, then a Morley Little Alligator Volume Pedal. I rarely have all pedals on at the same time and experiment with dif combinations. It's great to create an environment to do lead work on the top of.

you're talking about drone/shoegaze type stuff?

you get two different delay pedals and set them up with one being reverse delay and the other being normal.

big muff/rat > vibrato > reverse reverb > delay normal > delay reversed > tremolo
throw a volume pedal in your chain to help with swells

stacked delays (2+ delay pedals in a chain) is what ambient/drone guitarists thrive on
