re: Are the Pelicans really a playoff team?

quote:AD by himself would keep us from getting that low and you don't sacrifice AD's growth for tanking. we could finish with the worst record in the nba and have the 4th pick
Which is why they should probably just tank it, go all 76'ers and secure a top 3 pick. They have a very good PG playing in China right now they could grab that would make Rivers/Holiday pointless since he is younger and better.

Can you recall what games you've seen?
quote:Nope.... a team doesn't have to look crisp in wins either
You've seen 8 but the team is 8-9 and outside of the Portland loss they haven't looked good while losing, so if most of your 8 games were losses you don't have a full picture of what the team is capable of. If you only saw the 8 wins for example you might wonder how they could be losing so much.

quote:I disagree on that.... if Pelicans decided to tank AD could still put up numbers and team could still suck.... Much like Kobe and the Lakers (although I think Pelicans roster from top to bottom is better)
AD by himself would keep us from getting that low
finishing 9th or 10th in the West does nothing for this team and that is the path they are currently on.

quote:lol. AD >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Kobe this year and it's not even remotely close. AD is in MVP discussions and being argued as the top player in the game by some this year.

quote:what if you tank and still don't win the lottery that would be worse? also what is the guarantee that player would even be worth a frick? it's also not a great message to send to your franchise player who you'd like to be happy here. I really doubt he would like the idea of tanking. this team has too much talent to finish near the bottom anyway.

in addition a coach and gm on the hot seat would never do this

Emerging as a top 5 player?
Emerging?
Top 5?

Top 5?

Yes emerging.... he currently is playing like a top 5 per PER but do many consider him top 5? Not really....
People still believe Lebron, Carmelo, Durant, and then it ranges between Kobe, Harden, Howard, Curry, Griffen, Aldridge, and Dirk
a lot of casual fans fail to realize what AD has done not to mention what Cousins, Iriving, and Butler has done.

I like you because you seem to be a solid poster in the Yankee game threads, but you are so clearly out of your element discussing basketball. You might want to back away from this one.

Literally every nba show radio or television I watch talks about AD being the 3rd best player, it's almost unanimous these days.
Posted on 12/6/14 at 11:48 am to tduecen
Also, find me one person with reasonable NBA knowledge who legitimately thinks Kobe, Carmelo,Harden, Howard, Griffin, Aldridge, and Dirk are better than AD has been this season. Only argument of the lot are LeBron, Durant, and Steph.
Many of those players are playing extraordinarily well, but not nearly as well as AD has been thus far.

Nah, we are talking causal fans vs NBA fans on the specific Pelicans board.....
if you follow any NBA board many will mention their own players above AD and many "fans" will mention the players they hear about most often. After this season if AD continues he will be in that discussion but right now a lot of people over look him because he isn't Kobe, Kevin, Westbrook, Lebron, etc

No they aren't realistically. Talent-wise we're 8-seed good or maybe 7-seed in the west. Coaching and actual play, we're a lottery team. Expect nothing to change until the coaching improves and we're healthy

top 5 per PER
i love PER more than most on this board, but if you're going to use it, you better have a solid argument built around it. He's number 2 in PER behind only Westbrook, but Alex Kirk is number 10. 99% of casual basketball fans outside of Cleveland don't know who that is.
PER is best used later in the season when things even out.
