The college football national championship is still mythical

The big 12 has 3 bye weeks, so how can you compare teams that have more rest during the year to teams who have only 2 bye weeks. When all teams have the same number of bye weeks then we can discuss taking the mythical tag off.

One True Champion.
Unless there is a tie.

I agree the system is broken, but the playoff is a step in the right direction. Instead of the first team out being the #3 team in the polls, now it's the #5 team. Does a four-team bracket adequately determine the champion? Maybe.. maybe not. I think that eventually the bracket will expand, and there will be a lot less debate regarding which teams "deserve" a spot.

quote:Hilarious that this was their tagline for the season. When in actuality, they will be the only conference to actually to not have a champion
One True Champion.

the playoff is still 100% subjective so of course its mythical

Except in a most ironic twist, the system created to provide us with a championship decided on the field, by games in which whomever wins moves on to the next round, has decided that the result of a game played in the regular season where one team beat the other doesn't matter.

The BCS did the same thing thanks to the media's help.

Unless every conference champion--or at least every P5 champ--gets in, it's mythical. With the current system there's a good chance you end up with a committee could be choosing from five one-loss teams.
