I like space stuff too. But hell will freeze over before we get serious about. The general public hates science and only cares about reality shows, that the game is on and McDonalds.

I'd love to get in an astronomy club and get a telescope again. NOLA probably has one but I doubt the bayou does.

Yeah, I've been ranting about it all fricking day ( LINK), but apparently some piece of shite who robbed a convenience store and tried to wrestle away a gun from a cop and was killed over it is more interesting than furthering our species with the Orion Spacecraft. And it's going to take nearly 4 fricking years for them to do another test since NASA's budget is ridiculously strained. You know the organization actively working on advancing us to the point of not going extinct.

And you're damn right I'm pissed how this is being treated.

Does anyone here have a serious issue with privatizing space travel and exploration? Seriously, Elon Musk and SpaceX have shown they can do it far more cheaper and efficiently than NASA so why wouldn't we make a larger push in that direction?

Because private industry doesn't give a shite about exploration. They'll start with space tourism, then they'll start mining nearby asteroids and the Moon if we're lucky, and then they'll finally go to the asteroid belt, but that's probably going to be 100 years down the line and there's no financial reason to go to Mars, at least for the foreseeable future. Companies won't go there since it's really not all that rich in raw materials and it costs a literal metric frick-ton to get anything off of that planet. Is Coke just going to sponsor a 20 billion dollar mission just to have an astronaut drink one on Mars?

It's fricking embarrassing that we haven't been to Mars yet, and more embarrassing that we don't have a Moon Base at this point, and even more fricking embarrassing that we haven't returned to the Moon since 1972. Really, if I told people in the 60s where we are as a people right now after the greatest fricking event in history, then they'd immediately put up the white flag and let Russia march right on in.

NASA now has 4/10 of a penny on the tax dollar. A poster who works there says their budget doesn't allow a DVD player. Do you really think that there are that many more worthwhile endeavors than this?

I honestly don't and am optimistic despite the recent setbacks at launch.

Basically, I am looking for some agency or company to push boundaries. Whether that means landing a man on Mars, or launching a shite ton of probes out into space(my preferred path).

My hope is that Space X or some similar company realizes a commercial reason to go out in space again.
