I just set up a game where I am the only player to test how dividends are treated. I suspect, like the other poster wrote, that dividends are paid out in cash but we shall see.

One of the securities I put in an order to buy on Monday which has an ex-div date of Monday and has a div payable date of 12/18 so we will know either that day or the next day how dividends are paid in the game.

I also shorted a stock that goes ex-div on Monday to see how it treats dividends for short positions.

I'll let everyone know what happens....

In that case you're out of luck.

(NHMD is trading at 11 cents per share and the game's minimum price to purchase any stock is $5/share.)

I realize that Russian! I was being sarcastic since that ticker gets a lot of play in the MJ/Penny thread. However, there is a nice little stock that I like but again it doesn't meet the criteria as it runs about $2 a share and pays a steady 3% dividend and has been doing so for quite some time. AMNF

Also, I didn't read the long thread, but was it ever determined if BOIL has become predictable? Maybe that's worth a trade or two.

I'm up for anything monetary wise I think $5 would be good to start out with. Maybe if it is against the rules, per chicken, we could still fork it out and buy a trophy. End of the year whoever wins would get it shipped to them and we could have it etched on there who won and just pass it around.

My other thing is, I am in the industry and I know several others are as well...and given the research I have access too on top of what TD Ameritrade already provides might give us a slight advantage when picking stuff. Even though the market is unpredictable it does give people in my situation an upper hand. I by no means am saying i'm going to win but just wanted to throw that out there.

Personally if somebody's industry gives them an upper hand, I would prefer that they act on any advantage that they have. It would be nice to know what they are doing, what type of situations they are able to act on, and how it helps their results.

I am more interested in the learning aspect than where I rank at the end of the year.

ETA: I am not too into sharing personal info on the web. But once the leaderboard is set, it would be interesting to put everyone's rough industry by their name (e.g. Finance, Real Estate, Retail, Oil & Gas, Public Service, etc)

I bought 4K shares of UGAZ on Thursday at $8.68. As per my usual SOP I sold them yesterday at $9.14, just before they went up to $9.98.
