So all I'm asking for as christmas gifts this year is running clothes and gear - specifically stuff designed for very cold weather and snowy/icy conditions. Never had to get gear for these temperatures. Suggestions on gear and brands is very much appreciated. TIA.

Under Armour has some good stuff. I didn't use it for working out but used it for the middle of DC's winter. It worked fine.

Treadmills are the devil. And I have a gym membership but I need to run. A lot.

Moga pants? I like it. Give the ladies something to look at. And I won't wear a damn oversized t-shirt with mine.

gloves and hat are important

get a jacket that is wind/water resistant, don't go cheap here

I don't have much experience running on ice/snow, but I would suggest running in trail shoes with more grip or using the chains

I can't run with anything on my legs no matter how cold it gets, so I can't help you with that

I'm a big fan of Sugoi. You can find some good deals on Sierra Trading Post sometimes.

I definitely need gloves. Ran last night and my fingers were numb.

With the amount of stuff I'm probably going to have to ask for or buy myself, good deals will help soften the blow.

I suggest gloves that have a polartec windstopper and beanie cap. Hands and ears are the only thing that gets real cold on me.

I have been very impressed with REI branded clothing for running in the cold. Reasonably priced and works well. Granted i'm only in Nashville and not Boston, but so far this year I have run several times in the 20's. Ended up buying an REI winterflyte jacket and mittens which seem to be alot warmer than gloves. I also bought some of their running pants. I was dreading running in the cold, but so far I have stayed toasty. Now, cycling is a different story--- frick biking in the winter. Bought an indoor trainer for that.

As others have said, hats and gloves are important.

Outer layers with zippers are good too. Because you're burning calories, you're generating a lot of heat. The trick is to trap just enough to keep you warm. If you trap too much, you'll sweat too much... You can unzip part way to release excess heat.

One of these, a balaclava, is also pretty killer for the coldest of the cold days...

I like the Nike HyperWarm. The ones I have are thicker in the chest and stomach area to keep you warm and thinner in the sleeves so you can still get some ventilation.

ditto that. It has to be single digit weather before I'll put on tights.

Like others have said, gloves and hat are the two most important items. Also, a good vest will go a long way towards keeping you warm but not too warm - or restrictive.

I'm not a big fan of mizuno shoes, but their apparel is top notch. Get some gift cards for Road Runner Sports website, join their VIP program, and go to town.
