I hardly see them mentioned anymore and I always considered them to be one of the better brands.

looked at sony this past week when shopping for TV's. Seems like the lower class of their TV's are way behind the other low class TV brands in picture quality but their higher class is very good but seems to cost more than other top end TV's in same class.

I own their hx729 in the 46" model. I like the picture on the Bravia line. I'm a pretty big fan of their AV equipment. It garners a fair amount of hate for some reason. It's typically a little more expensive than comparable products. I've always had great longevity out of their products and will probably continue to stick with the brand for the foreseeable future for tvs, receivers, and blu Ray players unless I just happen to find a much, much better deal elsewhere.

A buddy does TV, sound and home theater installations. He moved from Sony to Samsung and back to Sony recently as his most recommended and sold TV brand. After having good success with Samsung he started having too many problems.

I have an NX810 55" I have been happy with. The 3D is kind of a gimmick and the glasses are costly but that is my only knock. It was on the front end of Edge lit LED technology when 240hz was a big selling point. I can probably get the same features now for half the price but that is the nature of electronics, not just Sony.

I also have a Sony AV receiver and it has been great. All my Playstation systems have worked great.

About the only dud I have had from Sony was a car stereo that died after a few years.

I think the brand is generally a pretty good bang for the buck.

I love my KDL-55W900A. The problem is that you can't find them anymore and the replacement isn't nearly as good. I think they are focused on other products and their TV sets are falling behind.

I have a SONY rear projection LCD TV I bought in 2006 that I swear has a better picture than an LG LCD 1080p from 2012.

Idk, it seems like SONY stuff is usually high quality and lasts.

CCFL backlight vs edge-lit LED. I can believe it.

ETA: I see now "Rear projection LCD" was a real thing and not the same at all as CCFL backlight.

I'm still using a 42 inch grand wega rear projection LCD. Replaced the bulb about 3 years ago and it's still kicking. It was pricey at the time but has definitely lasted.
