Grateful to have Les as our coach

Go ahead and call me a "sunshine pumper", rantards, but I am proud to have a coach:

- who has the best record in the SEC, and perhaps the most wins nationally, over his ten-year tenure
- consistently has LSU in the running for the SEC and national title (more often than not)
- has a fun and animated personality that attracts national media attention in a positive manner
- has a likeability factor more than most coaches
- recruits generally at the top echelon
- is an icon (you know the hat and associate him with LSU).

So many people get so wrapped up in the very rare success his predecessor is having at Alabama, that they fail to appreciate how good we have it, and how much better we have it than other "national powers" that have struggled recently (see: Florida, Texas, Nebraska, Michigan, Tennessee, for examples).

I for one am proud to have Les Miles as the face of our football program, and the leader of the players he recruits.

I also think that he has been a victim of his own recruiting success (especially this year), in that the top players have moved on to the NFL in such a huge force that LSU is in the top three of having players in the NFL. With a freshmen/sophomore-laden offense in an SEC West that boasted four teams ranked in the national top 5 at one point, LSU still finished with eight wins and was a flag away from toppling Alabama and sneakily being in the mix for the SEC West crown. Yes, the quarterback position has been a disappointment, but with what he had and given the schedule, it was reasonable to expect 8-4.

In any event -- I am grateful to have Les here at LSU, and hope he is here to stay for a long time. I have no interest in joining the numerous other programs in search of an identity, a likeable representative, national recognition, top recruiting, repeated success, and reasonable opportunities to win SEC and national titles.

So here's to you, Les Miles - enjoy.

I am also tbh. I hope he can win another NC while at LSU or at least beat Saban a couple more times. (I actually want this for Les more than for myself). He's a good dude, deserves some more big-time wins.

ps - don't get me wrong, he frustrates me at times just like everyone else. All in all, I like him.

He's a great recruiter and a good football coach. From an outsiders perspective, the problem some people have is that recently he's trending more towards Georgia and less towards Alabama. Over 100 teams would love to be in that situation, but you are part of a fanbase with high expectations, expectations that I am not sure can be consistently met by the man at the top. It doesn't make him a bad coach, it just means he isnt currently meeting the expectations he is expected to meet. I think those expectations are fair too, so Miles needs to do some adapting

Thanks Les. Done a fine job. Don't let the door hit you in the arse on the way out.

I'm sure Alleva is dying to give him a huge raise and up the buyout even more on his current contract

This statement should be sticked permanently at the top of the board.

There are only 1 or 2 careers in college football history that won't come up short when compared to Nick Saban's current run. Using that standard to measure a coach is a recipe for disappointment.

I can almost guarantee that a coach who can match Saban year-in and year-out is not available. Hell, he might not even exist.

Most intelligent statement that I have seen in a very long time.

Grateful - adjective
1. warmly or deeply appreciative of kindness or benefits received; thankful

Miles is a fricking football coach. That's it. A FOOTBALL coach.

He's not your family, or your friend or your business partner. He's a football coach.

Some of you pumpers are really off your rocker. You're like a cult.

AMEN! Makes me wonder if some of them have a statue of Les that that they pray to each day.

frick every single one of you who downvoted the OP, especially Cpt Bengal, if you're among them. Tell me one thing in the OP that isn't accurate. I like the man, I like the stability, I like the recruiting, I like MOST of the coaching. No one is perfect and this all comes back to Saban envy. That guy makes a ton of mistakes, too. They just seem to be swept under the rug as opposed to trumpeted.

Really let this quote sink in!
This is a proud statement. How do you even respond to this level of acceptance? This is just the new normal to some of you, I guess.

(not to mention this doesn't take into account that the following week Miles' team was embarrassed by a team that hadn't won in 17 straight SEC games....what would have reversed "sneakily" being in the mix for the SECW crown)
