I've done Commanders almost every year and am looking for somewhere new and fun of close to the same quality.

Any suggestions? I prefer to stay uptown.

TIA

Clancy's (downstairs only) is a very celebratory scene. Gautreau's can be as well. You can't go wrong with either.

Coquette, Lilette, Square Root are "uptown".

Herbsaint, Doris Metropolis, August, Mariza are elsewhere.

Clancy's leaves me cold....it's a "clubby" scene, and if you're not a regular, the welcome isn't always so warm (in my direct experience).

August is always lovely, esp if you alert them to the birthday at the time of reservation.

How about La Provence or Del Porto? Combine these with an overnight stay at the Southern Hotel: LINK /

If you haven't been to Gautreau's, I suggest giving it strong consideration.

I haven't seen a bad suggestion yet. I'll also throw out La Petite Grocery as it's a top 10 restaurant in the city IMO.

I think La Boca tasting menu is a lot of fun-- I've done a bday party there, get a big table... Great food, booze, and location to go out after if that's in the plans
