If you were a homeless person, would you reject a loaf of Mr. B's french bread?

I was talking to my friend Larry (not his real name) about this scenario:

Let's say you are eating BBQ shrimp at Mr. B's and they bring you an extra loaf of bread for dipping that you don't need. It just sits in its bag untouched on the table. Do you think a homeless person would be offended if you gave them the loaf of bread in the bag?

I say that if you are truly homeless/needy, you are grateful for any food that you can receive. Larry thinks the homeless person would scoff at getting leftovers from a restaurant.

What does the OT think?

If you are truly hungry, then who cares where it came from

Homeless people make more than teachers. They aren't hungry.

Agreed.

I dabbled in vagrancy for a little while, and this was very much the case.

Larry must have never been hungry.

Your friend is very naive. A truly homeless person wouldn't give a shite about it being leftovers.

While it depends on the homeless person, my first thought is it would likely be a good way to get cussed out by a street person.

Dip that bread in some of the shrimp juices, and you have a whole new ballgame.

When I lived by the beach I always have my leftovers to homeless people and they always appreciated it.

By a panhandler? Certainly.

By a hobo/vagrant/bum? Nope.

I used to do this shite all the time... it was largely appreciated, the assholes who refused because they were "above" it got a 'not so nice' piece of my mind filled with pejoratives and broad generalizations/accusations.

Larry is an idiot, especially if it's leftovers from somewhere like Mr. B's (not necessarily bread, but leftovers from there in general)

I hardly carry cash on me and I gave this homeless man all I had in my cupholder. One nickel. He looked at me and said, "Oh, come on, man." I couldn't help but laugh. What a dick. I only wanted to help. It's all I had.

ETA: To answer your question, there's a possibility he would scoff at your offering.

I don't give money to them. I'll offer to buy them food, and if they refuse, they can frick off.
