I have a couple of bombers that I'd like to send as gifts for the holidays, but they are already cold, so I'd like them to stay that way. I know that I'll probably have to go overnight with them, but what should I use to package them, and should I send dry ice, or will ice packs be enough? I don't think I can still buy these off the shelf at room temp, so I'll have to send the cold ones.

I really don't think you'd hurt anything just taking out of the fridge and shipping it normally. It warming up and then rechilling shouldn't hurt anything

You don't have to worry about the cold, IMO, since you are overnighting them. I would think the beer would stay good at room temps, unless these are beers you plan on cellering/aging.

Dry ice will freeze them. Use some ice packs. Might have to use gel-packs due to leakage issues.

You don't need to keep them cold, as long as they don't freeze or get really hot they'll be fine.

I'd let them get to room temp to remove condensation, then just bubble-wrap them like crazy.

It's really not that big of a deal. Just ship them.

Awesome- I'll just do this, then. The weather should stay cold, so extreme temps are not an issue.

Thanks for the input.

Don't overnight them. It will be expensive as frick and not necessary. Only OT ballers like Kim Jong Ir have beer shipped overnight.

If the beers are going up north, pay attention to the timing and how cold it will get during the travel. You don't want to have a box sit in a warehouse over the weekend during single digit temps.

Ha. I only use overnight if it is a beer emergency. I normally use FedEx Express Saver, which gets delivered on the 3rd business day.

OP, like the others said, don't worry about keeping them cold.

Hold on fellas. Don't shoot from the hip. I think this needs to be tested. Just send me two shipments. One that is wrapped in gel packs and shipped over night and one that is sent via ground. I will be able to tell if there is any excess degradation and post my findings and we can settle this once and for all.

How do you tell if a Jockamo has gone bad? Does it reach a point where it tastes good?

I thought Jax had won the thread with his comment, but damn if LST didn't hit a grand slam.

Craft beer drinkers are funnier than BMC drinkers.
