What should LSU fans realistic expectations be over a decade?

I will start by saying that I think prior to Saban/Miles that LSU has historically underachieved with the exception of the late 50's early 60's.

Since Saban/Miles the bar has been raised on what our fans expect from the football team and rightfully so, with 2 BCS titles in 3 appearances.

I think it is unrealistic to expect LSU to compete yearly for a National Title. Granted that is the goal every year but with huge turnover and misses with certain players remaining consistent is tough over a long period.

I think LSU should challenge(be in the hunt late in the season) for the West 8 out of 10 years.....winning the West at least 3 times a decade.

Win 67% of the SECCG appearances, which likely puts LSU in position to play for or in the hunt for 2 National Championships every decade.

Are my expectations realistic or unrealistic?

Lower expectations = lower results.

Right, it's the ranters' "expectations" that determine how good a football program is. Notre Dame has the most comically unrealistic fanbase in the country. How has that worked out for them in the past 20 years or so?

Skip didn't change the baseball program by being happy with mediocrity

And it's because of that that they have somehow remained to stay relevant with no conference. If not for the fanbase wanting/expecting greatness, they would have fallen off the face of the earth.

Even though he won 5 titles in 10 years, it is not realistic to expect that same result over every 10 year period.

3 National Title Playoffs every 10 years 1 Win
1 SEC Championship Game every 2-3 years 1 Win
Top Ten Final Rankings 8 out of10 years
Offense should always be in the Top 20
Defense should always be in the Top 20
Bowl Appearance Annually with 55-65% Wins

For $4.2M (head coach...7th highest paid) and $1M+ (each coordinator) and millions in facility upgrades..... What do you think the proper expectations should be?

But he changed the players and fans expectations. He did it knowingly because he understood the power of belief. If a mediocre player believes he sucks, he WILL suck. But if he believes he can be great, he's actually got a chance to be great.

The same goes for fans.

That's a total non sequitur at the end. If the fan believes the player should be great, the player will be great?

I think you guys have the causation arrow backwards. If a team has success, this leads to higher expectations from the fans. It's like arguing that people carrying umbrellas causes rain.

It's a complete culture shift. And it comes from both ends. Does it start from within? Yes. It has to. But once you have that program success and belief, the pieces become bigger. Alex Box is important. The fans are important. The facilities. Everything that is connected must reinforce that idea that you are and always should be the best and at the top. That's what keeps you there.

Who cares where the offense and defense finish nationally? All that matters are bowl games and crystal footballs (or that dumb looking new trophy)

That ranking will say a lot about ON THE FIELD PERFORMANCE, which will be directly tied to Wins/Losses
...there more on the post.

Football:

Always in the Top 20, 2-3 SEC Championships, 1-2 National Championships

Baseball:

Expect CWS every year. This is not going to happen, but 7 or 8 out of 10 years. Maybe 1-2 National Championships. I'm ready for baseball now.

Basketball:

I no longer care.

People expect more because Saban is a god and we once had Saban. All one has to do is look at college football history to see that Saban is an outlier. What he does isn't easy. There are a lot of top programs that are just as deserving as LSU. I'm happy if we're in the conversation late in the season. What Miles has accomplished has kept me more than happy. A bad year every now and then is going to happen. And if 8-4 is a bad year, one just has to look at earlier decades. Those fans would have killed for an 8-4 season. Be in the hunt most years, have a legit title shot every 3-4 years, and I'm happy. A lot of things have to come together to win it all. Mett's season last year could have been a 1 loss season if we get just a few breaks. People want us to be Bama. We aren't.

Perennial top 10 team.....with a few 9-3 seasons sprinkled in.

Only 2 coaches make more money than Miles have multiple NC's and 2 of them have never even played for a title.
