cop cameras & curbing militarization of police

problem is that many who would otherwise support it will oppose the plan due only to the source

as wrong as he is on everything else, he's finally stumbled onto the right side of an issue.

Why wasn't Obama concerned about the militarization of the police during the Bundy Ranch incident?

I'm ok with both but the cop cameras is a bit of copout on citizens responsibilities. With the supreme court ruling citizens have a right to record cops, there is no reason that we can't embrace the technology ourselves either in our homes, cars or on our persons. Also it provides protection against those that aren't in law enforcement or if the cop is off duty and suddenly has to act. Plus you take responsibility for ensuring it's working versus relying on the cop.

The problem isn't the police the problem is all the thug criminals.

Obama is just using this as an excuse in an attempt to "re-educate" the police. Basically get them to look the other way when blacks commit crimes.

Cop cameras will also remove a lot of discretion police officers have when deciding to ticket or arrest a person. Just sayin'...

I do support this.

But, I do find this
quote:

Obama: Wants to avoid 'militarized' police culture
HILARIOUS leading from behind. I mean, glad he's gotten on board but isn't that a bit like me raping a bunch of women and THEN discovering that raping women is a bad thing?

IT'll be interesting to see where Rand falls on this issue.

He was speaking out against it, but Obama is kind of forcing his hand, and it will be extra tough for him in the primaries to convince those far-right Republicans to support him if he sides with Obama.

It would have been nice if Obama got together with Republican leadership on this. I think everyone supports the cameras and it would have shown a willingness to work together.

Oh well.

Wrong. I oppose it because I don't believe the federal govt should micro manage municipal govt.

Cop cams not a good idea. The upshot will be that every decision an officer makes will be subjected to Monday morning quarterbacking, but without the element of duress. Cops will be afraid to do anything for fear of getting second-guessed. More of them will get killed as a result. Would a camera have made the Ferguson incident more clear cut, in terms of the attitudes of the minority community? Probably not.
