I know our "scheme" is used to prevent scrambles from QB and stop the run, but it seems like it's a really really big deal if we got to the QB. In 2011, Mingo and Montgomery had like 8-9 sacks respectively.

Hunter had like 4-6 last year, 2 this year.
Rasco has like 4-6 both years.

What's the problem?

I don't have an answer for the problems of production. But can you believe some posters think we will be better defensively next year?

HA!

DL is one of my biggest fear next year.

To not be such a big arse I will say for what Hunter lacked in pass rush abilities he made up for in protecting the edge and pursuit to the ball. He was pretty crucial run stopper.

If you go back and look at TOP by our offwnse this past year ... We had 38+ min a game at least 3-4 times... If not more. I think getting off the field defensively has been huge to our "dominant defensive stats" while also seriously hurting picks and sacks

Most college QB's are not straight drop back passers. The spread attack forces qb's to make quick throws, thus limiting the pressure from the DE's. What we need next season is a pocket collapsing DT to emerge.

Hunter and Rasco aren't very good at pass rushing beside the occasional bull rush. DT pass rush has also been non-existent.

The NFL draft

What drafted DE would still have eligibility this year? I'll wait...

Next year's def will be far more experienced than this year's defense.

So the DE position play is immune from draft departures of other positions on defense?

Neither player did much last year with Ego and Freak on the inside. They just aren't talented pass rushers.
