Nelson Cruz signs with Seattle - 4 years, $57 million

Teams are locking up their young talent very early on, so you're seeing a lack of power on the open market.

Not a big fan of the signing, but they don't have much of a choice. The pitching is playoff ready and they need power in the order badly.

Good point...it certainly fits their needs, and no doubt they'd pay a premium for it, but this seems high in both years and dollars. Or the much more likely scenario that I just haven't adjusted my perception to the reality of situation (ie need for/lack of power available).
