He has no place in modern football.

1- More often than not he tells the defense, without hesitation and without the need to read and react, where they need to go.

2- Any blocking advantage you hope to gain is negated by drawing that extra attention.

3- He's not nimble enough to be a big play target on play action.

4- If you absolutely must have that extra man in the backfield, a tight end gives you a receiving threat plus blocking expertise.

Neighbors, Jones... I love you, but...

Love the FB position. Ducre coming in next year has speed and size. He will be perfect. I do think you must have the correct personnel to have a FB because you need to have a very gifted mix of speed and strength. I really disagree with almost every point you made, so there's no point in even arguing.

Bears generally aren't that smart. So that's not saying much. And it shows..

Fullback plays a key role in our offense, so that position is not going away. We don't want to become a team that has to line up in shotgun every play, even in short yardage or goal line.

You realize that the fullback sprung LF's big run right?

There are NFL teams who use the FB with success in their offenses. It does have a place in modern football. What matters is how you scheme your offense.

You know very little about football. I'd be willing to bet you read the article after the Arkansas game that pointed out how Arkansas keyed on the fullback and that your opinion is based wholly on that.

It's not news that most running plays will follow a fullback who is in the game. And, certainly, one could make an argument for why a single back approach would be better.

But, your argument is pathetically ignorant.

I laugh at the commoner's perception that football strategy is akin to rocket science.

Are you referring to the article I wrote?

What's pathetic is to agree with me then declare your own agreement pathetic. Your opposition is not intellectual but personal.

You're right, it's not terribly complicated, which makes your inability to grasp its simplest concepts (such as a fullback's utility) pretty laughable.

FB's can be great if used correctly. No one ever expects them to get the ball so when they do it can be a big play. I see Melvin Jones having a great year next season if he can nab the starting role.

Auburn won the west last year using a fullback
Alabama won the west this year using a fullback. Hell fowler has 7 receiving touchdowns playing fullback the last two years

You're certainly onto something Rex

Ya know Rex intelligence is a lot like skill. If you're really skilled at something, you don't have to tell people. They'll simply take notice.

And you do know the most successful team in college football the last half decade uses a FB quite often correct?
