Buffalo hires Wisconsin-Whitewater's Lance Leipold as new head coach.

quote:

Leipold, 50, has won five NCAA Division III national championships in his eight seasons at Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he has a career record of 106-6...Leipold last month became the fastest coach in NCAA history across all divisions to reach 100 wins.

quote:

Leipold is offensive-minded and known for his pro-style scheme. He’s respected in the coaching community and expected to bring at least one staff member with major FBS recruiting experience.

Good hire.

Horrible job to take. Maybe he was ready for a decent payday now rather than work another 10 years in DII or FCS.

I didn't realize he's almost 60. He's much older than I assumed.

Because he's damn near coaching high school. Not saying he's bad but no big program is taking a risk like that.

Yeah, he's an older guy, but one of the best for a QB coach in an offense like ours.

Good hire. Not a great program, but Buffalo is a hell of a lot better than they were 5-10 years ago.

No we are comparing assistants to guys with actual HC experience, just as DIII was compared to HS?

OK.

Notre Dame is the only school I can think of that has hired a HC straight from HS.

North Texas did it with Todd Dodge and he sucked. Again I'm not saying this guy will be bad I'm just saying big programs aren't likely to take a risk on a guy at a much lower level.

Wasn't Chip Kelly coaching at basically the same level?

Oh, forgot about him, he even brought his all everything QB son with him.

I believe he is again a HC in HS in Texas, but at a much lower level, or he was.
