Fine wine collectors?

Anyone purchase rare wines ? I want to start indulging in some finer vintages and am wondering where is the best place to buy. My typical daily wine is 8-15 and will spend 25-55 for special occasions. I'm looking for some collection caliber wine that is still reasonable enough to drink at important milestones in life. I'm thinking 150-400 range.

If you live in Baton Rouge your best bet will be online auctions like Winebid, Zachys, Acker-Merrill. I've bought from Winebid for almost 15 years and never had any problems with provenance, shipping, etc. I've also bought from Zachy's and Acker, but at their in person auctions. Both have online auctions as well, but I've not used them. Remember that if you do buy at auction, you're going to play an auction premium over the hammer price, which is going to be an additional 15-25% of the price of the bottle. These types of auctions are the best way to buy one off bottles of a high end, older wine. In person auctions will more likely be half or full case lots. Also, Winebid will hold wine over the summer and ship it to you when it's cooler.

At that price, you wont have a problem finding some gems.
You could buy wines in the $100 range, lay them down, and still meet your goal.
