Do they each need their own XBox Live Subscription?

I know MS did away with the family plan and I know you only need one sub for a console for people to share.

The live is linked to an account. Not to the Xbone.

Can a profile be signed in to two consoles at once then?

Don't think so. It will sign you out of one.

You can try it but I am pretty certain it doesn't work.

At least it never did on my 360s. I had one in my bedroom and one in the living room. It would always sign me out on one.

One account can be signed into 1 x360 and 1one at the same time. Nothing else.

You can put your account on a memory card and just switch it between xboxes as long as you don't need to be online with both at the same time. Otherwise, you'll have to migrate your account each time, which is a pain.
