I was watching last week's 60 minutes last night. The first segment was on America's failing infrastrucutre and they hit on raising the gas tax several times. They claimed the trust fund will be dry next year (if true ).

Also anybody want to go on a tourist trip to Chernobyl?

It's just another tax on the working middle class and blue collar poor.

I saw that, too. It is noteworthy they did not even mention the 2009 stimulus. $787 billion thrown at "our crumbling infrastructure" 5 years ago, and we have basically nothing to show for it.

The dem from oregon hinted at it when he said that the dems failed too, but yeah Obama wasted enough $$$ on solar energy to fix the bridge that the AMTRAK guy mentioned. It was also funny that only blue states were mentioned (not saying that red states don't have problems because gawd knows they do).

It was discussed this morning on Fox. The democrat side was all for it, said it had not been raised in twenty years. Covuto was not against it, he just wanted a listing of where the billions are going to see how much is currently being wasted.

Less than 100 billion went to infrastructure.

That is about where my position is. I am open to raising it but I want to make sure that the $$$ is only going to roads and bridges and not bullshite projects.

We need infrastructure completed, we don't need new taxes to pay for it!

Why is it my family has to priorotize it's spending but my gov doesn't?

The current tax is wasted on non-highway/bridges projects. It's spent on Democratic pet projects like sidewalks in inner cities, Solendra environmental projects that are not roads, railroads to no where, high speed rails in California that are not needed, and the biggest waste is on Democratic Bureaucrats jobs to Dem's union family members and wives of campaign workers from the last election and Teamsters Union members or wives into a gov't job with Union dues. The last 5 cent raise in the gas tax was fine for 2 years, then it started going to the Dept. of Highways for gov't jobs for Union members, wives, and campaign workers. I know from face to face experience that made me sick. The lies they told to get that tax and then 40% of it started going to the Democrats family and friends in year three was disappointing. Those Dept. of Highways workers man telephone banks for Democrats on election day every election. I know.

Yep and then they look around and wonder why some won't ever vote for another tax increase!

Only recourse is to make them prioritize their spending. They won't! They will play on the fear of the public and their safety and all along wasting our tax money on other mindless crap.

That is why I said, I would want to see where the money is going before I would support a new tax. Democrats have a bad habit of raising taxes and not using the money for what it was intended for.

I wouldn't have a problem with raising the gas tax if the money was being spent properly.

Perhaps if the 2009 stimulus had been used for what was advertised, instead of a slush fund for Democrat donors, this problem may not be so bad.
