Olddawg, I do know the Pattersons as I think you might too. My gut feeling is that he doesn't go to LSU for several reasons, although I hope he does. You talk to the players on the team who are around him 12 hours a day, and they don't think he'll end up at LSU. I know he's real high on Ole Miss, USC ,and a few more. His brother at LSU could end up being a negative. He's so close to LSU's pathetic offensive woes that maybe that steers him elsewhere. I could see a bidding war happening for his brother a job in order to land Shea. I don't think he makes much now, yet works like a slave. He's technically not a coach. That's why he has to stay in the booth during games. Ole Miss OC at Calvary's playoff game 2 weeks ago and Sumlin at practice yesterday, yet no Les or Cam.

To question Indest, who has been one of the Acadiana area's most successful coaches, is the one of the most asinine things. He's taken every school he's coached at to the playoffs, some that hadn't been in a long time before his arrival and is now taking his alma mater for the first time in 52 years to the state final.

funny how that happens, he tends to go where he knows talent it coming. I mean why move around so much around the area. Abbeville, Kaplan, Carencro, Crowley, Catholic?

You could be right....but recruiting is far from over. I don't think he is going to commit till after his senior year so plenty of time for LSU to get things going again. LSU would be crazy not to get him at LSU....he could be the difference between a top 10 and top 5 recruiting class. Either way he is going to be successful....Shea works harder than any QB I have seen at his age. Always doing something to get better.

That does not surprise me. There was no way he was going to be denied tonight. Looking at LSU's style recently, this kid should have been a take a year ago. I understand the guys the staff believes in for the future, but this kid could help us sooner. I can't imagine that he can't at least be a 4th down, short yardage, or goal line threat almost instantly. I know he will be competing with 3 other guys, but he'll be the biggest, fastest one. There certainly is room for a guy like him.

If he can't throw the ball there is no room for him
I don't think he has the arm that Harris has, or is as fast. He is clearly a lot bigger than the compassion in LA Select Division III, but thats not saying a lot

The highlight video is all fades and deep ball to #13 who always seems to be wide open behind the defenders.

I don't think he has anywhere near the arm that Brandon Harris has, and i would say Harris looks faster too, at least on tape.

we aren't exactly hurting for power running. This kid could develop nicely, but he also could be a smaller Cam Newton with a much weaker arm. Which is pretty uninspiring.

Let's hope he's a Tiger in the end. Good for LSU, good for Shreveport, and good for Calvary.

A raise? Another challenge? Then finally to his Alma Mater? This is his last stop.

As Brent Indest absorbed the poignancy of the moment Friday night, he was stirred by glimpses of the past intersecting with the possibilities of a special future.

It was an historic occasion — the first time the Panthers had been this far in the playoffs in over 40 years — and Indest couldn’t help reeling it all in.

Indest has the opportunity to bring a state championship to Catholic High for the first time since 1962 when his Panthers meet Calvary Baptist in a state championship game Friday at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Catholic-New Iberia, which went 14-0 in 1962, beat Ferriday 13-0 in Class 1A championship.

“There are always so many hurdles when you talk about a state championship,” Indest said. “I was talking with and thanking our supporters afterward, and it occurred to me as I looked at a lot of them is what makes this so special. I’m home now (at Catholic High).

“Things like that fuel you. Many of the fathers of players are guys that I graduated with and played football with (at Catholic High). Now I’m coaching their kids.”

After stops at Abbeville, Kaplan, Crowley, Carencro and two years at CHSNI, Indest’s teams are 141-68.

Many of those seasons were spent restructuring programs that were once on life support, like the 0-10 team he inherited at Crowley.

State titles are obviously coveted treasure, Indest said, but obtaining one of them has never been an ultimate goal.

“That’s really not something that drives me,” Indest said. “Wherever I’ve coached, it’s never been a football factory or one with an exorbitant budget or an expensive staff.

..However i was not that impressed with Pellerins throwing capabilities....he is not very accurate and i didnt notice him going through progressions well, as he has a run first mentality which is inline with their O...so it should be much improved going forward...but shite i only saw him throw it acouple times

Pellerin dropped back to pass one time and it was the first play of the game. It is comical that you attempted to get any read on him from the Newman game.

Yea honestly I wondered about that too. But someone somewhere in this thread made an excellent point. In the offense we run, we need a big, fast, runner at qb.

In that light, I have to change my tune. Hope he gets an offer.

Correct. If we had a guy that was a physical running threat at qb, it would benefit us. I agree and have stated in this post that Pellerin would need polishing up throwing the football. If you watch him sling it around though, he has some natural arm talent. He's so used to running that he doesn't always set his feet. I'm not saying he's not a project, but if he turns out at all as a decent passer, he could be a very productive player for LSU. People are lining up to get behind Harris and I have no problem with that, but I think this kid fits our physical style and could add some needed competition. I also believe the McMillian kid we signed is highly underrated mostly due to his size. I think you have a plan year to year with the numbers you want to take, but Pellerin just seems to fit the style that would have helped us this past year. I guess the future will be different in the eyes of the staff. I'm sure Cam does not want to be a power run team, I understand that.

He's virtually the same size as Cam and he's being recruited to pitch/play outfield for ULL so I think the arm strength argument can be put to rest. He needs to develop his mechanics, mostly with his lower body. This happens to be the system that he runs in high school. He does not make those decisions. I mean Cam's offense at Auburn was completely different from what the Panthers asked of him. Just because a qb runs a certain system, doesn't mean they are not capable of running another one. That film was from a year ago as well.

Understand this, I'm very on board with Harris and his abilities. I'm not sold he's All World, but I believe he can develop into a good qb for LSU. I think Pellerin would add a serviceable role to the qb depth. Also, I like the fact that he can take some time to develop and maybe stay on campus a while, and also add some opportunities to have some running packages or run some scout looks against spread opponents.

The staff is taking a good look at Pellerin and don't be surprised to read more about him in the coming months. I honestly think Ole Miss has a good shot to hold onto him because of the opportunity there.

It's essentially akin to getting a promotion and pay raise at almost each stop, not talent jumping. If that was the case he could have stayed in Carencro the rest of his career.

He began at Abbeville and took over Crowley which had been down but had better tradition and resources than Abbeville and he won there also.

He decided to give college coaching a try and joined Derek Dooley's staff at La. Tech and discovered as good a friends he was with Dooley, college coaching/recruiting wasn't his cup of tea with the time away from home and was able to land the job at Kaplan where he was a friend with the principal.

He made Kaplan better before Carencro, which won Lafayette Parish's first state championship with Kevin Faulk, hired him away. He went from 3A football to the 5A level and reached the Superdome before ultimately getting the chance to return to his alma mater and where was living the whole time in New Iberia.

I think the tigers should take him this year. He seems to fit what LSU has done this season at least. I know he plays against some smaller kids in a smaller division, but this kid is a baller. Very good running qb

Great. So exactly what we dont need.

I personally know Brent Indest.... He is a gamer, always has been and believe me he doesn't have to look for schools loaded with talent... He can take an average Joe kid and make something out of him... Always has that fire in him that makes him tick and its not just in football , it's in any sports,....
