Is 10 yard penalty too punitive for holding?

It's a drive killer but isn't nearly as material as say a PI or a roughness penalty.

yes, but depending on where foul occurs. sometimes it's even more than 10 yards. How dumb is that?

I don't think defensive holding should be an automatic first down
