As for myself, I like the idea of a holiday where everybody gives each other smiles through gifts... keep that silly death for original sin guilt-trip crap away from the holidays!

The loss of colored lights is because it is trashy as shite. Clear/white are just more aesthetically appealing if you don't have toddlers.

Nothing to do with christianity

Our neighbor has already put her "keep Christ in Christmas" bumper sticker on her car and has started to complain about commercialism, the phrase "happy holidays", the loss of colored lights etc. why can't some people just enjoy the season for what it is?

Atheist activists are taking their campaigns to the Bible Belt this Christmas with a provocative billboard campaign that is expected to stir controversy in America's religious heartlands.
The giant advertising hoardings in the Tennessee cities of Memphis, Nashville, St. Louis and Fort Smith, Arkansas show a mischievous-looking young girl writing her letter to Father Christmas: "Dear Santa, All I want for Christmas is to skip church! I'm too old for fairy tales," she writes.

No shite...I saw a "keep Christ out of Dec 25th" bumper sticker the other day...assuming it was from a pagan/celtic/wickan perspective.

You know, when I get stressed about the holidays, I remember back to my own childhood. My brother and I never wanted for anything and always had good Christmases. But the things that stick with me most are picking out/cutting down our Christmas tree, going to see a movie with my parents every year on Christmas eve, and my brother and I watching TV and eating sweets on Christmas afternoon while my parents took a nap. I don't really remember much specifics from presents.

I try to keep this in mind with my wife and kid. Traditions stay with you. Material crap doesn't. ***

***Except for Red Ryder BB Guns. I've still got my original one from 1986.
