Why didn't we get our timeout back?

Can someone explain why they didn't give us our timeout back in the 2nd quarter when the refs botched the incompletePass-fumble-Recovery-Inadvertent whistle play?
They got the call right in the end after initially botching it, but seems we should have gotten that TO back after they figured it all out.

Because that wasn't what the timeout was for. Miles called the timeout because he (like everyone else) thought that it was ruled an incomplete pass. It turned out that it was ruled a fumble with play stopped early on an inadvertant whistle. Honestly can't really blame Miles for not considering that odd scenario.

Does it matter??? Miles doesn't know what to do with Time outs anyway........

why would we call a timeout for a 4th down and long punt? ...Delay of game wouldn't have mattered.
We called a timeout because we thought it was 4th and 1 and the play clock was running out, and we weren't sure if we would be going for it or not.
