Have the crossgaurds on Driver's lightsaber been discussed? They may actually serve some functional purpose, as the lightsaber itself appears to be inherently unstable. It has this "crackling" effect to it, while all other lightsabers that we've seen are smooth.

The crossgaurds may serve has some form of exhaust system for unstable energy generated from the blade. The Sith in this film would, presumably, be a neophyte in the ways of the Force, and wouldn't be skilled in crafting a mechanically sound weapon.

I think that's cgi technology trying to make the blade a little more realistic but I could be wrong.

I have to admit, I am very curious about why we have tie fighters and stormtroopers still as part of the big bad.

It's been 30 years. You'd think they would have run down all members of the empire. Further, you'd think no one as evil as the dark side would show up wearing the same unis that mark them as the evil empire.

Well, apparently the extended universe is garbage now, but according to the 50+ books I have read in this universe, it took years for the Empire to finally surrender after a string of defeats after the Emperor was killed. Even then, what was left of the empire became it's own "country", if you will, known as the Remnant. It was led by the remaining admirals with a single admiral elevated as the supreme leader. I could see the Sith taking over the Remnant and giving them ideas of returning to glory.

The Emperor was not truly the last Sith. There were others, including an entire planet of them that only just recently came by the means to leave their planet. Or a powerful dark force "spirit" of sorts could have taught a force sensitive person who stumbled into his area.

From that gif, they wouldn't even work as a cross guard correct? I mean the opponent would just slice through the bit of metal sticking out if the side.

That would make no sense at all.

Such a tease saying it's 1 minute 30 seconds when there is really only about 55 seconds of footage.

Showed my mom (who's a big Star Wars fan) and the minute the black guy popped up, "is this a funny or serious Star Wars?"

I got an instaboner when the MF showed up

So the main complaint seems to be there's a black guy in it.

Sigh.

I'm not gonna lie, I've had one ever since I saw that first shot of the Falcon.

I don't like the cross guard but I can live with it. I think the "cross guard" part will actually be used as a stabbing mecnahism. You can adjust the length in lightsaber blades.

Only Corran Horn had an adjustable lightsaber. It was not standard by any means.

It isn't going to ruin the movie or anything but i rolled my eyes a little bit when I saw that part of it. The rest looks pretty cool, the storm troopers gearing up and getting ready definitely had a saving private Ryan storming the beach look I think.

In the expanded universe that might be true. But the creators of the film have already gone on record saying they will ignore the narratives found in the expanded universe so they aren't tied down creatively. They also said they would take elements from the expanded universe but would not refer to it directly.

Kind of underwhelming, IMO. Then again, I'd prefer that to them giving too much shite away like most trailers do these days.

The shots of the Stormtroopers disembarking and the X-Wings were badass though.

All I know is that I just saw new footage of the Falcon in flight for the first time in 30 years.

That's all I know.

I'm stunned people are snubbing this teaser.

this is the closest I felt to seeing the original three even if for just a brief moment.

I'd also add that the original soundtrack heard cant be understated.

that is crucial to the first three films

I really hope his character becomes a love interest for Han and Leia's daughter (assuming that's who Daisy Ridley is playing) just so I can watch the idiots have a complete mental breakdown
