The Diamondbacks have reached agreement on a six-year, $68.5MM deal with Cuban slugger Yasmany Tomas, reports MLB.com’s Jesse Sanchez. The deal includes an opt-out that can be triggered after four seasons, and is pending physical, per Sanchez.

The overall guarantee lands just a hair over the $68MM that the White Sox promised Jose Abreu last year. Given changes in the market in the interim — largely driven, perhaps, by Abreu’s own incredible success — that price tag may feel low at first glance. Indeed, much attention has been given to the idea that Tomas, with his prodigious power and youth, could not only beat the Rusney Castillo contract (seven years, $72.5MM) but also reach nine figures.

He has loads of potential. Could end up as a nice deal for them.

They're looking for pitching or attempting to unload contracts. Timing was off and/or their just wasn't a logical fit as he's not strong defensively. Another thing is that if he can't hit enough, he could become another Dayan Viciedo type.

I honestly don't know how the international bonus stuff works but I think some may have been restricted by that

Naw. He's considered a normal free agent.

If I'm a D-Back pitcher, I've got to be thinking to myself not only do I have to pitch in Chase Field, my right and left fielder are now Trumbo and Tomas. I'd be crying inside.

Yeah nevermind it was Moncada who was being impacted by that since he's only 19

If they keep Trumbo they will have ridiculous raw right handed power and dreadful outfield defense I would think they would look at moving Trumbo but who knows

Nah we'll keep both and just hit tons of HR.

Besides our pitchers had nothing to bitch about last year with their performance.

But really I hope Hellickson doesn't suck and our injured guys come back as they were before.
