Say a 10-12 foot john vs one of those pelicans with swivel seats. Either would be equipped with a trolling motor. How stable are these comparatively? Speed(lol)? Draft?

A 10ft john will actually move pretty good if you put a big enough trolling motor on it. You aren't gonna be throwing wake, but it'll get you where you need to go. The one pelican I used seemed really clumsy and heavy, but I didn't use it much.

Im thinking of selling my gheenoe with a surface drive on it... It is a sweet rig, I just dont need it and my dad wants a bass boat.

It runs about 20 loaded down and is 15.5' long

Another option is to mount my trolling motor on kayak, but not as roomy

Brah. We have an 11' lowe john with 9hp godevil long tail.

I recommend it.

ETA it'll run maybe 12mph with 3 adults, full gas tank, 2 extra batteries and full ice chest of beer. That's the only way I've run it though (frogging ftw)

Got a idea that keeps popping in my head.

Why not try to find a free jetski that someone is trashing. Take everything out of it and take a sawall to it. Open it up. Would make a great floating blind after you camo it. If you had the paperwork on it, you could mount a trolling motor to it.

Just transpo. Paddled close to 10 miles this weekend in that hell of a wind and addin decoys, guns, burlap gets heavy fast

Going 2 miles out max id say. Two people would be nice, not necessary

can't imagine that would work very well. even the biggest ones aren't much more than 10' long. the back end on most jet skis is very short to facilitate rear boarding, which would make it very prone to sinking once you opened it up.

A 10' john boat with a trolling motor, or mounting a trolling motor to a kayak like a 14' native ultimate would work. A 12' yak would be really pushing it with 2 people though... 2 miles is a haul early in the morning paddling with gear.

I can understand that. I would look at a 10' bateau with a trolling motor. 2 people + gear and you'll be fine. You won't get there fast, but you'll get there without being worn out. And if you use a 40# trolling motor, you should have plenty of umph. Just be sure to bring paddles in case the cold kills your battery.

They have a 6hp Merc outboard on BR Craigslist right now. That on a 10' bateau will run circles around anything powered by a trolling motor. Can be put together cheap too.

They have a pelican boat like you're talking about with trolling motor and trailer on BR CL for $1000 too.
