Teacher in Destrehan High sex case is charged

Shelley Dufresne, the Destrehan High School teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student, was formally charged in St. Charles Parish Tuesday with carnal knowledge of a juvenile. Dufrene's attorney, Deanne Williams of Luling, immediately pleaded not guilty to the felony charge on behalf of her client. They left the courthouse in Hahnville without comment.
Dufresne, 32, also remains free on a $200,000 bond and under house arrest as she waits for a trial. Judge Anne Simon, a retired judge appointed to the case, also agreed to loosen the rules of house arrest, allowing Dufresne to attend an exercise program in LaPlace that's part of her therapy, and to play a greater role in helping her husband care for their three young children.
No trial date is set. If convicted as charged, Dufresne could face a sentence of up to 10 years in prison, including probation, and a fine of up to $5,000. LINK
