The violence in Ferguson is inexcusable. But it should not be seen as primarily a reaction to the grand jury’s decision not to indict Darren Wilson. Rather, it should be seen as a reaction to years of racially charged policing and a discriminatory justice. Focusing on Officer Wilson’s culpability detracts from the bigger, nation-wide story: That every month there are innumerable police abuses throughout the country that go unnoticed and unreported, and, even if they are reported, the accused officers will likely never be disciplined, much less charged with a crime. Unfortunately, many of these abuses are disproportionately felt by people of color. Abuses can be small and nearly impossible to discover, such as stopping a car full of black men without probable cause, or they can be large and public, such as unjustifiably gunning down an unarmed black teenager. Sometimes the police action may be justified, and sometimes it may not, but the systems in place for determining culpability are egregiously biased in favor of police officers. Add to this an over-militarized police force that uses surplus military gear to violently break into homes 100 times per day, usually to only execute search warrants, and you have a recipe for disaster and an urgent need for reform. We should take advantage of this time of heightened awareness to reform a justice system that has too much power and too little accountability. Hopefully the violence in the street will not overshadow the legitimate protests, but I fear it may.

I couldn't agree more. The Mike Brown case specifically was a lousy place for this to boil over, because I think that it is probably not an example of police misconduct.

However, let's not ignore what's been going on in Ferguson for years:

I don't disagree with most of this article, yet the culprit to 95% of these problems is the complete breakdown of the black nuclear family and the government handout democratic plantation. It's a vicious cycle.

This exerpt is a red herring and has nothing to do with Ferguson. It's merely making excuses for bad behavior. Oh, and I'm supposed to feel sorry for somebody who was arrested on outstanding warrants?

But she can't pay her speeding tickets.

Aren't Libertarians supposed to be about personal responsibility?

A couple of those fines were for speeding, one was for failure to wear her seatbelt and most of the rest were for what defense attorneys in the St. Louis area have come to call “poverty violations” — driving with a suspended license, expired plates, expired registration and a failure to provide proof of insurance.

Both authors cited are either right-wing or libertarian.

He forgot the part about the massive amounts of black on black crime.

That has nothing to do with it, right?

The black community is responsible for its own ills. The lack of fathers taking responsibility. Out of wedlock birth rates. Crime and the culture of glorifying gangs and thug behavior. Promoting a victim mentality blaming others for their problems.

They would have rioted last night regardless of the grand jury ruling. Because most of what you saw out there was little better than wild animals.

I've officially run out of patience regarding this whole charade. I foolishly decided to watch the opening segment of The View this morning, just to see what those libtards had to say. I couldn't last 2 minutes. Rosie O'Donnell and Rosie Perez were acting like Michael Brown was a martyr, and O'Donnell included Trayvon for good measure.

That one woman who is supposed to be conservative is a joke. I don't know if she's intimidated by the other women (outnumbered 3 to 1), but she appears to be afraid to say anything that will have the others jumping on her.

I did, and she should have appeared in court. I would expect to be arrested for failure to appear in court, why shouldn't she? She can also afford an iPhone, but cannot pay her tickets. No sympathy here, and no wonder she didn't want the other party to call the police after the accident.

Won't courts put you on a payment plan or something if you can't pay your ticket immediately?

I mean, if you don't have the money, you don't have the money. Regardless, just not showing up and then praying that you never see a cop again seems like the poorest of all possible strategies.

What does that have to do with the ACTUAL BRAINWASHING of our youth by radicals ?

My point is/was that our youths can't think for themselves, they have zero idea how to use deductive reasoning because they are taught that left-wing idealism is the be all end all, end of thought process, beginning of left-wing agenda, end of reasoned thinking.

right, these municipalities would have to raise taxes if they were to change the system.

what happens there is annoying. Sure residents might be able to break free from that trap but why should they have to?

Why should you pulled over for no reason so they can spot check you for license, inspection, etc? Its just trolling to get money. its banana republic style of governing.
