I posted this on another thread, but I want to make sure it's seen.

All tollways in Houston are FREE for military members with ID, as long as the booth takes cash (has an attendant). Make sure to show your ID to the attendant and they will write down your name, etc, and then you're good. From the HCTRA's website:

quote:

Free passage on Harris County operated toll roads will be granted to active federal and state military members who present a valid Military ID in dedicated toll collector lanes only. Free passage is not available on Toll Roads with no collector lanes or through combination collector/electronic tolling lanes if the military member's vehicle is equipped with an EZ TAG device. If the active military member's vehicle is equipped with an EZ TAG and he/she uses a Full Service lane, the EZ TAG will be charged and no refunds will be issued.

To get through free, make sure you go to a "Full Service" lane, NOT any other.

First if you're coming down I-10 west and you take the Toll road Beltway 8, there is no booth attendent to show an ID to because from I-10 to I-69 or Hwy 59 it is EZ-tag only.

From 59 to 290 you will go through 1 toll booth that will cost you a whoping $1.75. To stop and show an ID and they write your name down is not worth it IMO when you can throw seven quarters in a basket and keep on trucking.

Anyway if I was driving from BR, I would stay on I-10 and take Hwy 290 North to Hwy 6 to CS.
