I just picked up a lengthy commute and need something with better MPG. Does anyone have experience with Subaru or more specific the Crosstrek Hybrid? TIA

First of all, prob not the best board, try the ot.
But aren't all Subarus awd? Would think that would hurt mpg. They make quality cars though, my dad has one thats never had any issues.

Thanks for the information

Official EPA estimates for the XV Crosstrek stand at 28 mpg combined (25 city/33 highway) for the CVT, while the manual transmission reduces those numbers to 26 mpg combined (23/30). The XV Crosstrek Hybrid is the best of the bunch at 31 mpg combined (29/33).
Why pay a premium for the hybrid when it only returns 3mpg more than the standard model? Run the numbers but it usually doesn't make sense in cases like this. Also what brought you to Subaru? Their boxer 4 engine isn't exactly known for good fuel economy.

Do you need AWD? Subaru (Fuji) is good at building little, efficient cars but so is Honda and Toyota and Nissan and Mazda and any of those four have better dealership networks here and local support.
I'm a Toyota and Honda person but I've owned and gotten great service from Mazda, Nissan and Mitsubishi too. The Korean imports rebadged as GM? Meh.
More details: where to and distance are you commuting, how many seats, manual or automatic transmission, annual mileage, anticipated mpg, etc. would be helpful.

That's a good point on running the numbers. I'll be surprised if the hybrid turns out to be worth the extra.
Some reviews on USNEWS initially made me look at the Subaru. I'm looking for something with a lot of space, AWD/4WD, and gets better than 30 on the highway. I'm open to suggestions from others experiences.
Thanks again.

30 mile commute but it is the D.C. beltway where traffic sucks. 5 to 6 days a week. need 4 seats due to child seats. automatic is better for the traffic around here.

All wheel drive? I'd guess so in NVa or MD.

AWD/4WD is a must. We live in the foothills and the grade is steep and weather is often not helpful.

Subaru in your part of the world is da bomb. The XV Hybrid doesn't get you much real world savings for a bunch more complexity and expense (+$4k?) upfront.

Dunno diddly about Subaru, but VW/Audi TDI models beat hybrid MPG by quite a bit in the real world. I get 50 during my am commute in a new Golf, 15 miles of mostly rural, then 5 miles of city traffic. 55 on the interstate with the cruises set. Two weeks on one tank of fuel.

The Accord hybrid gets 47 combined. Counter-intuitively, it does better in the city than the highway, 50 MPG city / 45 MPG hwy. I may get one eventually.
Having lived in Japan and Colorado I have mad respect for the Subaru in general. It's a great mountain vehicle.

A Subaru, only decision is which model.

Subarus are the best value for AWD vehicles. The math doesn't work for hybrid.
I have a 2013 Subaru BRZ with no problems. I am getting 28 mpg calculated on Fuelly in BR driving. I have been very happy with the Subaru experience and will be replacing our family car with an Outback or Forrester within the next 2 years.

I have an Outback and it is by far the best car I've ever owned. I get about 21 MPG, but most of my driving is in the city.

Break even point on most hybrids vs cvt all gas models is around 100k miles.

Looking at what you need, why not get a legacy if you want a subaru? Great car that will get 36 hwy and 26 city.

Our Son's çar is a Crosstrek (non hybrid). It is a great little car. Fun to drive and 100% reliable so far. It gets 28 city and 32 highway. It has good performance and handles great in bad weather. As a matter of fact, I drove it last night from Orlando to St Augustine, in driving rain storms. It was not only very stable, it was fun to drive in such bad weather were as other cars were having major problems with all the standing water on the highway.
