ennifer Gable, an Idaho transgender woman who died of a brain aneurysm in October, was presented at an open casket and buried as a man by her family.

Gone was Gable’s long, wavy brown hair and smokey eye shadow shown in several Facebook photos.

In her place, friends found Geoffrey Charles Gable wearing a striped suit at Magic Valley Funeral Home, her hair cut short, according to photos obtained by the Daily News, and an obituary that skipped a decade of her life transitioning to Jennifer.

“They tried to make her look like a boy,” Stacy Hudson told the Daily News.

Her friends, appalled by the funeral’s display, are standing up for Jennifer’s life - not Geoffrey’s.

No problem with this.

His parents and family can have a funeral and remember him as they see fit. The funeral is for the family anyway, not the deceased.

Her friends can have a memorial and remember her as they see fit, with as many glamour shots, facebook pictures, and memories of girls nights out as they want.

You're honoring their memory, and we don't all remember people the same.

I'd hope they'd follow the wishes of the deceased......but I've learned not to judge people who are mourning the loss of a child.

Funerals are for the living to morn the loss of a loved one, and her family is likely paying for the service and organizing it in a way to remember their son. I am sure Jennifer doesn't care at this point, but I could see how her friends would be upset visiting the funeral of a very different person.

Her family apparently remembers her as a boy, and they are the ones likely paying for the service.

Sounds like his parents didn't really care about him and it was a parting shot at him.

What's the point of the funeral? Why mourn the loss of someone you don't even respect?

Perhaps the family, who is likely paying for the service, simply remembers their son as a boy and want to reflect on the good times they had together.

Unless the deceased wanted to be buried a certain way, it's really not anyone's place to judge.

They didn't love their kid for who they really were. Terrible parents. Spitting on his identity.

I support it. I'm sick of all this stupid shite. His mother gave birth to a boy and she knew him that way. People can do what they want with their lives. I don't have to applaud them for it.

Born that way is a crock of shite. This is a choice, more often than not, though it's one I think a person should be able to make. Still, I don't think we can dictate what parents are and are not allowed to do when burying their children.

Guesswork on your part.

Maybe there are more facts I didn't see, but let's say you grew up with a son who later transitioned. Died not long thereafter.

You raised a son. He was biologically and anatomically male. While I don't think I'd handle it the same way, they may not have known the "woman," they knew the boy they raised. It does seem callous, but perhaps it would have felt like they were burying a stranger otherwise?

its not honoring a persons memory to completely deny who they were in life.

This. She had been living as a woman for 10 years.

I would agree. Although in retrospect, a closed casket would have been a preferable choice.

I like to think of myself as a pretty open minded individual, transgenderism is just something I can't wrap my mind around. Close the casket and let people remember him whichever way they choose.
