This is strictly assuming that a second SEC team does not get in. I was reading one of Stewart Mandels articles and it got me thinking. He mentions the following:

quote:

As for the playoff, UCLA will be no lower than No. 8 come Tuesday after Ole Miss, the one two-loss team currently above it, lost to Arkansas. There’s been talk all season about a two-loss SEC team making the field; what about a two-loss Pac-12 champ with wins over current No. 2 Oregon, No. 13 Arizona State, No. 15 ASU, No. 19 USC, 8-3 Memphis and 6-5 Texas? That last one, mind you, came with Hundley out for most of the game.
It’s still a long-shot, but if all hell breaks loose

You would have Bama, FSU, and OSU/UCLA/Big 12 champ for the final 2 spots. What do you think?

Assuming something happens crazy happens in the Iron/Egg Bowl...UCLA has Stanford and Oregon (Pac 12 Championship) left?
It's possibile. If they beat Stanford handedly and just annihilate a 11-1 Oregon team...I could see them sneaking into the 4th ranked spot.

I can't see the committee leaving the Pac 12 Championship out.

Possible, especially because I think Oregon will be #1 come Pac12 title time.

Bama has, essentially, zero great wins and that loss just keeps getting worse and worse.

If MSU isn't a great win, then how many teams have a great win?

Dont try and reason with him. His anti-sec bias is too much to over come.

I'd put them in over Baylor. At least UCLA tried in non-conference. The home loss to Utah might be too much to overcome though

Not if UCLA is the pac12 champ..They will not leave a two lose pac12 champ out of the playoff..MSU would not even have won their own division.

true, but if Ole Miss upsets MSU then this becomes a real possibility.

So what you're saying is, whoever the #1 team is, everyone else in their division is automatically disqualified??

UCLA doesn't deserve it, even if they were Pac-12 champ. Their wins are unimpressive and they already lost easily to Oregon...so who cares if they beat them on a second try? And UCLA needed 2OTs to beat Colorado!!!!!!!!

COLORADO!!!!!

UCLA has no impressive wins and a horrible loss to Utah.

I said it before the season.

The Pac-12 champ won't make the playoff...too much quality teams and parity.

I think Oregon loses and that's that. Pac-12 left out.

I think a 2 loss champion from SEC/Pac 12 would beat out the Big 12 champ, so, yes. But some of this just won't look as good as it does now and some of it doesn't even look good now:
quote:

No. 13 Arizona State, No. 15 ASU

One of these two teams will take a plunge.
quote:

No. 19 USC,

They may or may not be ranked at the end of the year. They aren't very good. Living off a 2pt win at Arizona.
quote:

8-3 Memphis

quote:

6-5 Texas

When Texas was playing god awful football. Texas is a middle of the pack team in an average conference.

I could see an interesting debate about UCLA but I think it would take at least two more teams out of a FSU, Ohio St, Alabama, Miss St losing.

At that point, if the 4 team field came down to choosing both TCU and Baylor over UCLA as Pac12 champ with all those Top25 wins, UCLA may well jump one of them.

I think they would obviously jump 1 loss Florida St, as would Georgia if they win out.

There is no way UCLA leapfrogs a 1-loss Big 12 champ. None.

They might be better than a 1-loss Ohio St team, but there's no way a program with the pedigree of OSU gets leapfrogged by any two-loss team. OSU's resume will improve with the Big Ten title game, and that should hold off anyone from coming from behind them.

If Bama has no great wins, then who has great wins? Beating Mississippi State is comparable to Baylor beating TCU. Those are the only head-to-head matchups between teams currently in the Top 10 of the CFP rankings.
