OCZ ARC 100 series on TigerDirect (link is to mobile. Hope it works on desktop. If it doesn't, try going to their deals page or their website and searching their website for the drive).

Comes with a $70 rebate for McCaffee antivirus, so you're out of pocket $89 with a rebate card to be sent to you. Yes, it's on the lower end of SSDs. I do own a different OCZ drive (whatever the lower series of Vertex and Agility is. I forget) and am happy with it though. The drive does go for as low as $60 elsewhere, but it will be hard to find a cheaper drive for anyone looking to buy an SSD to upgrade from an HDD. You almost definitely won't be dissatisfied with the results. I will change that to "definitely" once the drive comes in.

ETA: warranty looks to be 3 years with advanced replacement given for just the device's serial number. Paid returns as well. Never used their service to see if they live up to their claim, but it's a heck of a claim for $20 when it's all said and done.

I've washed my hands of Tiger Direct rebates. You'll be lucky if you ever get it.

I've gotten every one of theirs I've ever sent in. Sorry to hear about your experience.

THIS

the only way i've ever gotten rebates from them is to constantly hound them on the phone and even then its been hit or miss.

mail in rebates = biggest crock of shite/scam ever.

we have the internet, fricktwats. just let me do it online instead of making me jump through hoops from the 1970s Columbia House 10 Cassette Tapes for a penny.

taping cardboard UPC cut-outs from a box and filling out 7 forms for a rebate and then asking you to wait 10-weeks to INFINITY for a response is fricking LOL ridiculous.

why not require me to pray to vishnu and include some sassafras incense in the envelope as well?

:bid:

eta i had a friend who worked in a 'rebate center' and he told me they were given incentives to find technacalities to reject perfectly valid rebates and stonewall customers. sometimes they simply didn't mail the rebate at all unless you called..and they refused to even look up your rebate if you didn't want the minimum '8-10' weeks first before calling.

GOD IN HEAVEN

NEVER AGAIN.

I don't disagree. That said...

Take a utility knife and incribe a shallow cut around the label. Then pry up a corner and lift it off intact. Just the paper-thin top layer of the box should come off, hardly damaging it at all.

I've done several dozens of rebates over the years and have received every single one. I had to follow up on only one that I can remember. When I mail one, I set a reminder in Outlook for 2 weeks past the 8-10 weeks they tell you to wait. It's not a problem. frick, rebate processors are less hassle than "respectable" insurance companies.

if a rebate were truly legit, they would simply allow you to input your stuff online and you'd get the credit instantly.

this mail in bullshite is designed for the explicit purpose of dramatically reducing the actual rebate 'pay outs' since lazy people or people who don't put the correct stuff in the envelope will get rejected.

I don't do rebates, I look at the full price to make my decision.

Of course I'd rather get the discount up front, but rebates have been reliable for me and don't represent a significant hoop to jump through. I'll stop redeeming them when everyone else agrees to, so the sellers have to adapt.

In contrast, I've had to launch multiple inquiries on purchases to get cashback from Fatwallet.com. Using that service is a truly sketchy process. There's no notification that you did it right when you made the purchase, and you have to check back weeks to months later to see if the vendor actually reported your cashback. Often, they don't. Still, I've gotten back over $300 from them, and coupled with rebates, credit card rewards, and most importantly, never paying interest or fees, I've saved me some money over the years.

Same. In fact, one time I did an MSI rebate and was non-compliant the first time around (forgot the invoice for some reason). Instead of throwing out the rebate like most companies would, MSI, unprompted, gave me a second chance to send the missing invoice.

However, I have indeed heard terrible things about Tiger Direct's rebates. Apparently they use a third party rebate service called 4myrebate that has been known to "lose" rebate forms and UPCs. But of course, these are internet reviews and you can't necessarily trust that they aren't coming from disgruntled consumers who just didn't follow directions.

Browsing r/buildapcsales and read some caveats about this rebate:

quote:

The Catch:
How to Qualify for your McAfee Rebate:
Purchase a qualifying McAfee product listed below from TigerDirect between
11/23/2014 and 12/03/2014.

To qualify for this rebate you must:
• Install McAfee Multi Access. (Instructions Below in Special Instructions)
• Enroll in the Auto Renewal feature. (Valid credit card required)
Stay enrolled in the auto renewal feature for the first 10 months of the subscription.

NOTE: By redeeming this rebate you are agreeing to Activate and Install McAfee
Multi Access, and to enroll in the Auto Renewal feature. You may opt out of the Auto Renewal any time after the 10th month of your 1 year subscription term.

Others have said they enrolled, got their rebate, then cancelled. The problem is, if the rebate company takes their sweet time getting the rebate to you, you'll have to keep paying for this shite software until they do.

This is not typical of the rebates I'm used to seeing on computer parts. Generally, it's:

- Fill out our stupid form with your info and product info
- Cut out UPC and paste it on form
- Print out invoice/receipt from place of purchase.
- Stuff it in an envelope and wait a couple of months.

That's usually enough to keep a lot of people from getting the rebate -- looks like too much trouble, miss a step in the directions, forgot to follow up with company after 8 weeks or so.

This one is particularly exploitative.

It's a 1-year subscription term- you don't pay anything extra by being enrolled in the autopay. I've done a 4myrebate antivirus subscription or two. You set reminders on a calendar for 10 months out and cancel. If you're the kind of person who will remember, it's good. If you forget, you spend an extra $70 on a second year's subscription.

Or you're patient like cad and wait another 4 days for a $20ish 120gb ssd to show up without all the bullshite.

That's a lot of work doc.

Gotcha. For some reason I interpreted this as a free month, then you're billed by the month until your rebate comes in. Redditors have reported that they were able to cancel after they received the rebate, so no need to wait 10 months.

Link it when it happens, and I'll buy it too. I've got several machines to upgrade.

I would buy several for that price. Make all my brothers' and parents' computers run like new for Christmas.

Q. Is an OCZ SSD a bargain at any price? As I recall, they went bankrupt and were poorly regarded all along. I'd stick to Intel, Samsung, Crucial, and Sandisk.

I'm keeping a sharp eye out. The best I saw so far was a $26 corsair a few days ago if you bought using Google pay but it went away almost immediately.

Because you're a moron and it's been proven time and time again.

I have never had issues with mail in rebates. I won't do the software rebates like the one linked though mostly because I am lazy and they are way more involved than normal mail in rebates.
