They appraise them higher so they can charge you more for the insurance premium. Oldest trick out there.

Totally agree. It seems a bragging point to say how much is paid rather than getting something that looks good and fits.

The guy who said $3500 for 2 total carats must be poor in both clarity and color.

I think he said total weight, probably several small diamonds.

I know. that's why I'm saying it has no bearing on how much it's actually worth, since no one will pay that much for it.

Alot of the diamonds are small diamonds, she has a half carat diamond in the middle and the small diamonds cover the rest of the ring. I got a good sale on it. My wife doesnt give a shite about the clarity crap. Im not an OT Baller, but I have class and im not cheap for the money I have by any means so frick you.

You of all people should know that diamond is unstable at surficial heat and pressures, and will breakdown....meaning it is most assuredly NOT forever.

I was reading some article online somewhere, cant remember what site or how i found it, but the article was saying that the more you spend on an engagement ring the more likely you are to get a divorce. the article went on to show statistics, people who paid less than 5 grand on a ring had the lowest rate, and then 15 grand had a higher rate, and then rings over 25,000 had like an 85% divorce rate. The article tried to blame it on the ring price as a leading cause of the divorce, it was stupid. the reason people who paid less than 5 grand on engagement rings have a low divorce rate is because both people are logical. the reason people who drop 25K on an engagement ring have such a high divorce rate is because they are both insane.

plus if a girl says "my ring better at least be this big or cost this much" she sucks as a person

ETA: if you got cash to burn and it wouldnt effect a down payment on a house, go for it though

Yeah, probably one of those with very small diamonds around the ring.

I could see it being appraised that low.

Oval tend to look larger for the same carat.

My wife has an oval cut. She works with public daily and still gets good comments on it 11 years later. Hers is .72 carrots, I paid right at $3000

1.5 carat engagement ring
0.5 carat wedding band

The wedding band was a family ring that matches the engagement ring perfectly. It's kind of tacky to discuss how much I paid for the engagement ring but it wasn't cheap.
