Avoid Tiffany's at all cost!!! Huge rip off. Way to expensive. That being said my wife wanted a ring from there so that is where I bought it. I'm an OT baller but I still hate it because there are better values out there.

I looked at 1 carat and thought it was puny as shite. Is it crazy to drop 12-15k on a 1.5-1.75 carat diamond?

Man frick that. You go .5-.75 on that ring and take her on a nice trip with the savings or put it down on a house. Dumbest investment ever is a big arse engagement ring.

Completely fricking retarded to go over a carat(that's where the big jump happens on price for us poors who don't get 2+ carats).

I'm completely ignorant to this, but do diamonds have a real market like gold, silver, etc?

Not that I'm aware but people still love to call them investments

fricking right. Women and jewelers want the sucker buying the ring to believe this.

But just go on ebay or other reseller sites and find USED engagement rings for 1/3 of original price.

Poor quality diamonds are very cheap.
High quality diamonds are way more valuable than gold. Diamonds that are colorless, great clarity, and excellent cut are very expensive. These diamonds values increase at a much higher rate than gold. Also, most of the diamonds are placed on bands made of Platinum. Platinum is more expensive than gold.

3 Carat center Sapphire, and 1.60 carats of diamonds around it.

I paid nothing. It was her Grandmother's.

You hit the freaking jack pot then. Two years ago Tiffanys would not do this and they laughed when I asked them about this.

Whoever came up with the idea of giving a diamond engagement ring to a woman needs to be shot. Just a stupid money making scheme.

I was under the impression that Russia could flood the diamond market tomorrow if they wanted to.

1 carat with a halo of small diamonds would be perfect.

I have no idea how big the diamond is. That was 9+ years ago.

We got married right after college and I spent less than $2k.

Now that we are well-off, I told her if she really wants something better, we can talk about it. She has no interest

IMO, if the ring is that important to your potential wife - it's a bit of a red flag

1 carat. I dropped 2k on the ring and 15k on a kickass honeymoon that we enjoyed the hell out of.

That also sounds moronic.

The divorce rate is 50% in this country, why does anyone bend over and pay retail at a shop these days? I bought a set with a 1.57 ct center stone F vs1, with diamond on the wrapped around both bands. The set appraised for 22K, but I paid $7,500 and then a couple hundred bucks to have it sized and re-plated to look new.

Only catch is you have to have cash because some woman coming out of a divorce isn't financing you.

Been getting strong hints that when I propose she only wants one ring, so no need for a wedding band, but she wants at least 2 carats with Micro-something around it

Fair enough....I may have bought an overpriced rock, but at least I didn't buy the BS about if you don't pay full retail then you don't really love her.
