Thoughts?

Just starting it, never heard much about it other than Nicholson has a good performance.

I was still kind of hesitant until I saw the opening credits-
Jack Nicholson
Jon Lithgow
Danny Devito
Jeff Bridges

You are only scratching the surface with that cast list. It is one of the best, extremely sad movie I've seen.

Tremendously well acted.

MacLaine's reaction at the end was spot on perfect.

Bit of a downer though.

Shirley MacLaine delivers the best performance by an actress in the history of movies, PERIOD.

Very solid film. Book is great too, by the Texas native, Larry McMurtry. It dominated the early 80's with awards.

I saw this when it first came out when literally none of my friends would go to see a movie even remotely like this. It's a good, well constructed and acted movie. Lithgow gives a good turn. As does McClain and Bridges. Nicholson is kind of over the top but in that good Jack Nicholson over the top way. To be honest, I don't even remember Devito in it.

I've always been aware of this movie, but never seen it. I had no idea Larry McMurty wrote it, though.

Anyone else find that Jeff Bridges and Dave Coulier look exactly the same?

One of my top movies ever...brilliant on all accounts. Winger, as batshit crazy as she is, was great and Maclaine was beyond great. Fantastic cast and direction. Everything about it was satisfying. Hard to believe that Winger and Maclaine couldn't stand each other through the filming. A testament to their talent.

I hated the son in this movie.

(btw, Debra Winger has at least 5 great movies.)

1. Terms of...
2. Officer and Gentleman
3. Urban Cowboy
4. Forget Paris
5. Sheltering Sky

I did some research and saw there was a sequel made called "The Evening Star," it sounds awful.

Very much so.

Houston backdrop for this movie is magnificent, I might add.

Totally.

I don't find Debra all that attractive...but I do find her really attractive in Urban Cowboy.

Lets face it, Urban Cowboy was Starship Troopers before Starship...Shawshank before Shawshank...a higher version of Roadhouse...purely rewatchable.
