Doesn't the Bible demand burying the dead so that some bullshite can happen when the end comes? Christians are buried so their bodies can be raised or some fairy tale like that!

Sounds like you put a lot research into that insult.

Why? because people are dying to get into them.

Please don't bury me
Down in the cold, cold ground
I'd rather have em chunk me up, pass me all around
Throw my brain in a hurricane
The blind can have my eyes
And the deaf can take botha my ears if they don't mind the size

The dead has to stay somewhere until the next election.

Sorry...
quote:

There are Christians who object to the practice of cremation. Their arguments are based on the biblical concept that one day the bodies of those who have died in Christ, will be resurrected and reunited with their souls and spirits. This teaching assumes that if a body has been destroyed by fire, it is impossible for it to be resurrected later and reunited to the soul and spirit:

quote:

It is the same way with the resurrection of the dead. Our earthly bodies are planted in the ground when we die, but they will be raised to live forever. Our bodies are buried in brokenness, but they will be raised in glory. They are buried in weakness, but they will be raised in strength. They are buried as natural human bodies, but they will be raised as spiritual bodies. For just as there are natural bodies, there are also spiritual bodies.

…Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled: "Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?" (1 Corinthians 15:35-55, excerpt verses 42-44; 54-55, NLT)

"For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first." (1 Thessalonians 4:16, NIV)

More Biblical Points in Opposition to Cremation

Most of the key people in the Old Testament were buried. In fact, it was considered a dishonor to the people of Israel not to receive a proper burial.
Most of the people who were burned to death in the Bible were receiving a punishment.
Practical Points Against Cremation

Unless the cremated remains are interred in a perpetual care cemetery, there will be no permanent marker or place to honor and memorialize the life and death of the deceased for generations to come.
If inurned, cremated remains can be lost or stolen. It is important to consider where and by whom they will be kept, as well as what will happen to them in the future.

I know people who can't be cremated because they'll need their body for the rapture.

Prine reference ^ +1

As to the OP's question, the reason we have to bury folks is, as the Pythons said: "The dust men won't touch 'em (dead bishops)."

I've been to the Yakusuni Shrine, the Punchbowl, Arlington, Verdun, Bitburg and I'd rather not see another cemetery, thank you.

Cremation is OK for me and for anyone who asks me.

Give my feet to the footloose
Careless fancy free
Give my knees to the needy
Don't pull that stuff on me
Hand me down my walkin' cane
It's a sin to tell a lie
Send my mouth 'way down South
And kiss my arse goodbye

I am not particularly devout, but went to christian schools most of my life and I can honestly say that I have never heard of any christian opposition to cremation...

It's fairly recently that cremation was approved for Catholics.

liz, I'm not sure what the total quote is supposed to point out but
quote:

Our earthly bodies are planted in the ground when we die,

does not say it has to be planted in the ground. Nothing in your quote that is directly from the bible does it mandate that we are to be buried. It was the disposal method of the time that the above quote was written.

If it were a necessity just think of the poor Christians that were fed to the lions. They could not rise from lion shite.

Burn me, bury me, feed me to the dogs, I have no reason to think I will care.

When you die, your family pays thousands to bury you in the ground beneath a rock that has your name on it.

You act like this is a big deal. Do you realize how much money any one of us wastes? That vault and rock is for the remaining family. It isn't wasted money if it buys goods and services that keeps the economy flowing AND makes the family happy.

We all returning to dust anyway. It'll just take longer for my casket and vault vs your urn.

So to those that are against it, what business is it of yours? Does cemeteries harm you in some way? Are we running out of usable land?

As I understand the Catholic approval for cremation, the ashes must be dealt with in a respectful manner, not just stuck willy-nilly up on a shelf next to those Doc Martens that are too narrow and rub a blister on your right foot....

Oops, I've said too much.

My 62 yr. old wife never missed a day of catechism. She said she has never heard that it was wrong to be cremated.
