So I'm a relatively new godparent (she just turned 1). Been through two gift buying scenarios already, where i got her a sweet Flintstones car and a jewelry box with a dancing balerena, as i feel those are staple gifts for youngen's. But here comes Christmas..

I'd like to stay in two criteria: Things she will have/use forever, or the first in a series of gifts that all correspond.

What do yuo guys get youngens/godchildren as gifts?

I usually get my nephew and niece something loud to play with.

I expect full retaliation from my brother if I ever have kids.

Pretty legit. I'll consider that 12 years down the road.

If you want a forever/long term gift, go with a savings bond or jewelry. She's 1, but her ears may be pierced.

So I'm looking into savings bonds, and am not finding a great breakdown of exactly how they work. Looks like I buy a $50 savings bond, and in 20/30 years its work $100? Can i continue to contribute to the same savings bond? or do I get her a new savings bond yearly? Anyone have experience with this and can tell me what they've yielded?

We got my oldest a really good wagon when she was 1...she just turned 13 and it went through 3 kids and we finally retired it.

Lifetime hunting/fishing license is always a good investment--it's much cheaper when they're under 5.

I'm going to second the lifetime hunting and fishing license.

This can turn into future gifts of guns, ammo, and fishing gear. Maybe you can take her on hunting and fishing trips.

In the younger years, we open and add to a savings account for them, along with a couple of books for a hands on gift..Especially if family is many.Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends. Ours get so much stuff along with clothes, etc. Birthdays and Christmas time are just loaded down. Also give a silver dollar for Christmas.

Not an option any more. You can't buy them. The parents have to first set up a custodial account and then you can contribute electronically to it. It's not quite the same thing.
