quote:. As a freshman, Gray led the Red Raiders in assists (3.3 per game) and steals (2.0) and was third in scoring (9.6).
LSU needs him to do things other than scoring.
Gray's 26 points against Oklahoma on Feb. 20 were the most scored by a Tech player this season.
Perhaps most importantly, Gray grew more comfortable in his role as facilitator as the season waged on, and Tech's offense become more efficient as a result
Don't worry he'll get better

The problem is you are ho-humming the loss against a decidedly outmanned team because only 2 players played well. You even managed to work in a way to blame the previous coach that literally has nothing left over on the current team, and compare this game to a game between 2 nba teams. All while ignoring that there are much bigger issues at play.

I'm taking it in context. We have 29 games left. That's a lot of games. This was a bad loss. But taking this loss and thinking this is how we're gonna be all year is asinine. There is no massive underlying fault with this team. All of their problems are coachable or will come with time. You're trying to state that we should win based off the talent of four player alone, when that simply is unrealistic. I think the comparison to the Cavs was quite appropriate. They are more talented than pretty much every other NBA team, but they're struggling because they don't know how to play together. Our team shares the same problem. They don't know how to make their skills fit best. That showed tonight with the amount of isolation that was run. Good teams only run iso plays when a player is extremely hot or has a mismatch. Sometimes, you're going to run into a less talented but more cohesive team, and if you're talent is doing what they're supposed to, you're gonna lose. That was the case tonight.

It's not unrealistic when you are decidedly more talented than the team you are playing. You're entire point is predicated on teams having at least similar talent. That is simply not the case here.

And this is exhibit A. The talent gap between the cavs and the 76ers is less than the gap between Lsu and old dominion.

Isolation has proven to be a staple of jones' half court offense, if it can even be called that, in his now 2+ years at Lsu. They didn't run substantially more tonight than any other game.

Good teams only run iso plays when a player is extremely hot or has a mismatch.
And bad teams run ISO plays the majority of the time because they dont actually have a half court offense.

So you're completely ok with accepting that Lsu will be in a position to lose to an inferior team if their top 4 players don't go 4/4 in terms of scoring that given night? There's nothing else that can be fine elsewhere to compensate for the very real possibility that all 4 of those guys won't all be on for every single game?

Maybe the overestimation of your "talent", and assumption of equitable coaching is a cause for your cognitive imbalance.
The best player on the floor tonight was our transfer from lowly Campbell. Rating stars did not matter, his performance did. The arrogance shown in expecting a non P5 team to wilt before supposed superior athletes is laughable, but commonly seen. Hell, in the post-game interviews, our leading scorer made comment of how LSU had good talent, but played like an AAU team.
We outplayed you, outcoached you, and out-executed you. We were hoping for more competition than a "cupcake" game from a supposed name conference. If you guys practice really hard, and have a coach that actually makes relevant gametime moves, one day you may have a shot to defeat us. Until then, enjoy the gumbo and self-loathing that goes along with a team full of many stars and losses to "directional" schools that are collectively flat out better than your undisciplined thoroughbreds. You wonder why people loathe you, look at the arrogance without reason in your comments and look in the mirror. Ask not for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for you.

Prove me wrong.
And to answer your question, yes. I do feel better.

An Old Dominion fan registers here just to talk trash. I think I've seen it all.

My girlfriend told me she was buying me a PS4 for Christmas! But after watching this years football team and seeing tonight's performance of our not so stellar basketball team I'm afraid I'm going to have to open my present ahead of time!! Which is quite sad! I know.

Next time Mercer beats ODU, I will stop by the Old Dominion Board to gloat (is there an Old Dominion board?). It's been awhile.
Posted on 11/22/14 at 12:07 am to BasilBogomil
I have heard of Mercer, but surprised you have. I think they play D-1 sports. Do they have a woman's team that would play your's in a preseason exhibition? Pretty nice of them to spread their wealth to the less fortunate.

I went to Mercer (and LSU). Watched the Bears beat your team a couple of years ago. That was the last time I'd come across an ODU fan, until tonight.
Enjoy your gloating.

This is a LSU board. I could not give a arrogant tiger's arse about Mercer, nor does anyone else here. Stay on topic or you may be subject to moderation for violation of forum rules. Just trying to help.

We do have a board. but don't allow the scottish to participate. British fans are welcome, but Scots are persona non gratis.
Nothing personal, but we just hold no value to anything you care to say. Has something to do with poor dental hygiene, but I digress.
