Conservatives must admit that a tall, long arse fence on the Mexican border (covering the entire border) is an infeasible, extremly expensive concept. If you seriously want a fence, I just shake my head.

In the grand scheme of things I'd say a fence is the cheaper alternative compared to completely overloading and bankrupting public services with an influx of DREAMers

I suppose for this board, I'd be considered a liberal, but that's another matter. I support a secure border - question is, how is it accomplished?

Fence. And it's so damn easy.

I mean look at the infrastructure accomplishments by this country. No one can reasonably conclude a big arse fence is not easy. I mean the Egyptians built a 600 mile levee on the Nile before Christ. Excuses that we cannot build a fence are plain silly.

a secure border

What does that even mean?

I know it sounds nice, but what needs to be done to "secure the border"? Deploy troops along all borders? Build a wall?

The first link is the best as I think some form of "virtual fence" is the best method. The second link wants to finish the wall but recognizes that it is only a "delay".

The 3rd link is my least favorite. For some reason the author recognizes the effectiveness of K-9's in border security but complains that a lot of the dogs aren't born in the US. What a kook. I am not even sure how correct he is or if he believes that all German Shepherds and Belgian Malamars are born in Germany and Belgium.

In any case I would like to see several plans made up laying out a combination of existing fencing along with heavy "virtual fence" usage.

Exactly. That slant-eyed little midget in North Korea is not going to do anything.

See its bigots of the GOP base that are helping to cause this stalemate.

The Chamber of Commerce has given the Republican party an ultimatum on passing Immigration reform by 2016 or else (they'll find an outside candidate).

You have Business leaders /businesses who depend upon the hard-working Immigrant work force , but a Xenophobic base that the GOP fears as well.

Republican politicians prefer the status quo . They are stuck between big business & big bigots.

Yes.

Then we can implement a controlled and sane immigration policy. Not a free for all immigration policy like we currently have.

You're call me a bigot and a xenophobe because I was less than flattering when I referred to a murderous, evil, psychotic little tyrant. Nice.

Let's figure how much that would cost. It's about 2000 miles along the U.S. Mexico border. It's about 4000 miles between U.S. and Canada (screw Alaska - it's 1500 miles and not worth it).

What are we going to build it out of?

15 feet high sound right?

It's been estimated to cost about $50 billion.

We would save that in the first year.

Add to the fence a STIFF penalty (jail time for repeat offenders) for employers hiring illegals and the U.S. will come out WAY ahead.

The worst part is that anyone with an IQ above single digits knows that this entire liberal charade is strictly about buying more votes with other people's money. And you scumbags won't even admit it to yourselves.

If the Republican agree to make all of these illegals citizens but with the provision that neither them nor their anchor babies will have the right to vote, you'd see how much these filthy liberal really "care" about these people.

That's not nearly as crazy as I thought. I'm not sure a wall is the statement we want to make, but building it seems feasable. We spent $700 billion on the stimulus.

If Hispanics start voting Republican with any regularity, they will turn the border into the Impentrable Fortress.

Any fence would have to be patrolled in order to be effective.
