Louisiana State Police spokesman Michael Reichardt told the Associated Press 16-year-old Andrew Hardman, was cited with reckless operation of a vehicle. The misdemeanor charge is a traffic citation which police say is policy in every vehicle wreck, regardless of the severity of the crash.

Still. That's messed up...

This headline makes it seem much worse than a misdemeanor

Sad, but Darwinism.

ETA: and before you start bitching at me about the 4 and 7 year olds dying, no they don't know any better. I'm criticizing the jackass adults who didn't buckle themselves up or force anyone else to either.

I was coming here to post this. Such a shame. I would feel guilt enough having had been behind the wheel and not ever seeing my family members again.

While it is policy in every vehicle wreck, it's still an incredibly shame that this boy will live with this for the rest of his life.

as if killing his whole family is not hard enough. Our political system is so fricked up.

Lets drag this tragedy out in court seems to be a brilliant idea!!

A little insensitive, but isn't it just a ticket?

... as if they could possibly punish him any more than he is punishing himself.

"Policy in every vehicle wreck?" So, if a tree falls on my car as I am driving by, I'm going to get a "reckless operation" ticket?? Tornado blows my car off the road and wrecks it? Somebody shoots me while I'm driving?

I can think of a number of scenarios where someone could be in a wreck without recklessly operating their car. How about a little screening?

I cannot imagine that the charges won't get dismissed if his toxicology comes back clean (impairment is NOT suspected. This was just a terrible, tragic accident. This kid needs help, not an arrest record.

Yeah, I read "charged" earlier and assumed he'd been arrested. This seems more like a ticket. Still a horrible situation for the poor kid.

I'm just going by the article headline.

I agree, it makes you think it is way worse like he was intoxicated and being charged with the deaths.

This is the exact reason why common sense left our judicial system a long time ago. Let's charge him with a crime because some bureaucrat said so.

Eta:him not her

A) Not a female.
B) It's a fricking ticket.

In the threads about this wreck, why does everyone assume "Andrew" is a girl?

This stood out to me earlier when I read about the accident. How the cops don't think the driver has been punished enough for his "reckless driving" is beyond me. Im sure a ticket is the last thing on that teen's mind though

Uh, the wreck. You know, women drivers...

I really don't know, I found that odd too.
