Cox just decided to increase my internet by $20 and I tried calling and they only knocked $5 off my monthly payment.

Considering downgrading from Preferred to Essentials.

Anyone run on the essentials plan and stream through Roku/AppleTV without many issues?

TIA

Did you ask them why it went up?

I was told that it goes up annually now, varying from $5-30. Which is bullshite. And I live in an area where no other providers are available.

Are you at the end of the promotional period you signed up for?

No.

My only concern is that I'll have Netflix or Hulu rolling while I'm working on my computers and doing paperwork and that the signal won't be strong enough.

I do that and have never had a problem.

You can always try it out. If it doesn't work call back and upgrade.

I had considered that but didn't know if they would give me the run around.

Thank you for your help.

You can stream fairly easily in HD with a 5mbps connection. You just need most other internet traffic in the house to die down- namely you will struggle to stream multiple hd offerings at the same time with that tier. Most other general browsing traffic will be fine while streaming.

They recently doubled the speed of the preferred and above packages, so now the speeds are very lopsided. They start at 5mbps then jump to 50mbps (used to be 25) with nothing in between. I used to do the 5mpbs service without much trouble, but I'm slowly phasing cable out, so I cancelled a bunch of cox services and used the savings to increase the internet speeds. Yes, some things are marginally faster and it's kinda nice, but you can live on 5mbps and be fine.

IMO a package around 25mbps at a price between the 5 the 50 offerings would be ideal.
