The pressure from the impact was spread over a wider area when it impacted the books, and I'm sure that wasn't the only book in that bag. Besides, most backpacks have padding between the wearer and the interior pocket, so it is possible that he might have felt something but with the sensory overload of a firearm being discharged so close to him I doubt it would have been enough of a thud to register.

Awesome

get, I assumed I was fine. The truth is I was almost killed tonight and God intervened. I know conceptually He can do all things, but to physically witness the impossible and to be surrounded by such grace is indescribable. To God be the glory, forever and ever, Amen.

I don't really believe this. Not like the bullet passed through his bag, the round was supposedly stopped. No way he doesn't physically feel that. It might not have felt like a bullet, but it should have felt like something hitting or pulling on him if from the side. The energy from the round when somewhere.

I've never been shot at and known how my body would react in that situation.

I'll give the kid the benefit of the doubt. He literally thought he was going to die. I think your body goes on sensory overload at that point and pain just isn't relevant.

Strange he didn't feel it hit his backpack. Lucky/unlucky kid.

Energy was probably dissipated over a relatively wide area.

It's only ridiculous to some people. To some people it makes perfect sense. Quit acting like there is a right and a wrong side to his statement.

What I see are a couple of dicks trying to push a thread somewhere it should go.

The sole reason for this being posted is because I thought yall would be interested to see what happened with the book stopping the round.

That was interesting.

But since you also included his personal thoughts on why he was "saved" I don't know why you're surprised that some people decided to also comment on/point out how ridiculous his statement was.
It might be ridiculous to you, and objectively, sure you can say it was a matter of simple luck and physics.

Try, just for a second, to put yourself in that kid's shoes. I'm not a particularly religious guy, but if I were suddenly in the middle of a mass shooting, and I later found a bullet blocked by something in my backpack (jacket, pocket, etc)... I'm quite certain I'd be having a spiritual moment. You suddenly realize you just almost died.

I watched a video of a "reporter" being shot in the gut with an AR from about 4 feet away. They were demonstrating use of bulletproof vests. The reporter stood on one leg and took a round to the stomach. Didn't even move him.

I'm no ballistics expert (I'll leave that to bapple) but after seeing that video, I can believe the student might not have felt a thing.

I found the video. Correction: 7.62 to the gut from 2 feet away. (Bonus .44 to the gut point blank)

video if you havent seen it
