Cannabis & Marijuana Lobbyists Endorses Republican Bill Cassidy for U.S. Senator

Rep. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) may have just received the most unlikely endorsement in his quest to unseat Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) in a December run-off election.
Cassidy is garnering support from the cannabis crowd via the Louisiana Cannabis Industry Association solely because Landrieu said in a recent debate that she is against the use of medical marijuana, according to Spokesman Jesse McCormick in an interview with WWL Radio. Cassidy, a doctor, on the other hand, said he was open to the idea.
“There’s certain times, particularly when somebody’s suffering from cancer, or whatever, they’re suffering from extreme nausea and pain, that it’s a viable treatment option and he thinks it should be available,” said McCormick.
McCormick told WWL that he is looking forward to seeing how the Republican-controlled US House and Senate handle the issue of medical marijuana and marijuana reform in general.

That's one more republican that has anti WOD sentiments even if it may be just for a harmless drug like weed but it's still a step in the right direction.

I hope this don't backfire on him. I support Cassidy and the legalization of marijuana but this could rally the old folks behind Mary and we all know who votes the most.

That is besides the dead in NOLA.

I am not a Cassidy fan, but I could be, if he got behind this.

What kind of twit opposes medical marijuana?

I think it was voted down in Florida.

Mary Landrieu apparently.
Another reason to vote against her.

Sentrius, I may not agree with you too much on this board politically and I've kind of been a dick to you over the past few weeks, but you and I are simpatico on the legalization of marijuana issue.

Nobody knows where these people actually stand on these issues in their personal lives. Their public positions are about garnering votes. Mary may be for or against it, but she's calculated that she can't come out in favor of it. A democrat in Louisiana can't be seen as too far to the left. OTOH Cassidy, whatever he may personally think about weed, has decided that being "open" to it may win him a few moderate votes.

Good Lord, if there's anybody that ever needed to take a few tokes to improve their medical condition known as "dumbass", Maryjuana would be the poster child for legalization.

Another "proof" that our transformative approach is winning is that we have convinced millions of young Americans to elevate the legitimate but minor issues like "gay marriage" and "legalizing marijuana" and "the war on women" way ABOVE the things that used to be considered the key measurables for an Administration. Foreign policy...that's for Cavemen. Economy...too boring. Rule of Law...not so much. Get everybody interested in with own pet "cause" project, divide and conquer.
Brilliant really.

All that has to happen is that MJ needs to move to Schedule II - then EVERYONE has MMJ - it is the schedule issue that is holding everything back.
Recreational would still be, technically, illegal at the federal level, but once it is a "prescribeable" medicine, the rest of the barriers will fall fairly quickly - and a large number of states already have MMJ in their law as it is.
It was reactionaries that put it on Schedule I as it is - heck, for that matter, LSD should be Schedule II, although not as widely beneficial as cannibis.
I mean, for G-d's sake - cocaine can be prescribed for certain dental/nasal problems, but MJ can't be according to Federal law?

Let me know when he actually (co)-sponsors a bill to end the federal criminalization of the drug. If he does - I'll vote for him next election. Until then its just pandering.

It seems that Landrieu wants to keep it illegal - even for medical purposes. Do you support her?

Of course he does - "D" trumps everything for most leftists.
I mean, she's wrong on AGW, too, but she's still in the right party.

She's apparently so influential in congress and on the military appropriations committee that she could probably keep navy contracts going to Avondale shipyard.....oh wait.
Well, at least she will chair the energy and natural resources committee so long as the democrats stay in power....oh yeah, that didn't happen either.

I think it was voted down in Florida.
It needed 60% to be put on the FL Constitution.
It got 57%. And a TON of money poured in from out of state to defeat the measure.
In due time though, it will pass. The big thing against the legalization of cannabis is the federal drug codes. The Republicans have a huge chance here to win millenials, and I sincerely hope they hold hearings.
They can't stop the legalization train too much longer
