He was pretty good. Prob shot too much, but was one of the better passing big men in the game, if not the best, outside of CWeb

Magic and Bird came out in the same year

I just looked that up. I didn't know this, but Bird was drafted the year before (6th in 78). He went back to school, but the Celtics kept his rights..

I really wish the Grizzlies would break out some old Vancouver gear every once and a while. Screw the ugly arse TAM's jerseys they had the team wear a year or two ago.

Uh...1960.

Oscar Robertson
Jerry (Logo) West

Lenny Wilkens

(I love how Oscar and Jerry went #1 and #2 - the NBA scouts got it right for once.)

#4 was Jackie Moreland (Louisiana Tech)

Reading the wiki and saw this:
quote:

The Vancouver Grizzlies had the highest probability to win the NBA draft lottery, but since they were an expansion team along with the Toronto Raptors, they were not allowed to select first in this draft.[2] The team with the second highest probability, the Philadelphia 76ers won the lottery and obtained the first selection. The Toronto Raptors and the Vancouver Grizzlies were second and third respectively.

I've never heard of this rule. Shouldn't they want the expansion team to pick first?

1996 was a good draft year, but I have to say 1984 was possibly the best.

The worst part is that the Trailblazers offered the Rockets the #2 pick and Drexler for Sampson. If the Rockets had accepted that trade they have:

Olajuwon
Jordan
Drexler

No doubt they win 10 championships minimum.

Thank god that trade did not go through. That would have been a worse possible result than selecting Bowie.

Sampson's career was cut short by injuries AND we would have had no hall of famer in Clyde Drexler.

Iconic cover. I was 5 years old
When that came out and it was my first purchased copy of a slam magazine.

That magazine used to be so important in the basketball culture

What led to the Slam magazine's demise?

Kobe
Ray Allen
Steve Nash
Iverson

all hall of famers

Peja
Marcus Camby
Stephon Marbury
Abdur Rahim
Zyrunas Illgauskas
Jermain O'Neal

all made All Start teams

Derek Fisher was also in this draft

84' had 4 HOF's and only 3 All stars. And 2 of the all stars were only 1-timers.

Couldn't tell you. It probably fell to due to the boom in digital media.

all relative to how shitty the Eastern Conference was at the time.

and the Big Four in Each class, '84 has 4 of the 5 best players between the two classes.
