Sad, but this should also be a lesson to others.

Great obvious point but

why don't you back away from the keyboard and calm down huh? Everyone's upset and emotional but posting something like this will only make you feel worse and drag the thread into a nasty place.

they need to use this opportunity to educate people who still think its ok to ride around with out seat belts on and also driving late at night---with an inexperienced driver---I mean that could happen to anyone driving at night or when tired, but its just not worth it.

The car in that pic isn't a Tahoe. Is that the vehicle in the accident or a separate one?

GUYS. Wear your freaking seatbelts. EVEN WHEN NAPPING IN A CAR TRIP. It's a minor comfort inconvenience that will most likely save your life in a crash like this.
So sad and so preventable...

That's a terrible stretch of interstate. Basically funnels people from every part of the country and canada as they're heading to disney. Some people driving like nascar and some people going slow as frick.

Agreed...there were many other horrible accidents during my 4yrs in Gainesville on that stretch of interstate.

Why does God let stuff like this happen? I believe in God, but IDK...

a 2005 tahoe could have a 3rd row, but that would mean the middle row was captains chairs, making it only have 7 seatbelts most likely since I don't think a tahoe with captains chairs in the middle would have a bench up front.
also there is no way that 8 people could fit luggage in a tahoe and themselve so they were likely pulling a trailer with the luggage. so driving at night, 16 years old, 8 people in the car, and possibly a trailer. great parenting there.
There is no Tahoe XL. According to cars.com, they could seat up to 9. They all had third row. Could have been front bench (3), second row bench (3) and third row, which I always assume is a 2 seater, but maybe can be a 3 on some models (cars may be wrong about that, but I have seen tahoes with 3 rows of bench seats. Usually an LS.
They had seat belts, they just didn't have them on.

There would only be 7 seat belts. Also if the car had captain chairs instead of the bench. Make it 6 seat belts. Not sure which number.
But no matter what, there was no possible way to have enough seat belts in the car.

Not to derail this thread, but certain 05 Tahoes can hold up to 8 or 9 passengers according to the review. Hopefully it was one of these they were driving, but still a shame 5 were not wearing seat belts.
