Tax reform, tax consumption not income
Entitlement reform
Some other changes conservatives want

Financed by giving Federal lands in the west
to those descended from slaves

Becoming isolationist and shrinking military
leaving NATO repudiation of all foreign defense
Agreements and letting the rest of the world
bare the cost of their own defense, doing away
with Departments of education, energy etc

Too outside the box?

If reparations are owed, then they are owed. The receiving group shouldn't have to "give" something in exchange.

I've researched the slave reparations debate for many years. You don't want to open that can of worms. The devil is in the details.

Pigford was a form of reparations. Tons of minorities claimed they "attempted to farm" and sued USAD for payments over their loan procedures.

You didn't have to have any proof you attempted to farm or ever talked tp USDA.

If reparations equals the original amount "40 acres and a mule" then just give every African American who is a descendant of American slaves 40 acres of useless federal land out west and the current market value of an average mule. We'd still have plenty of land left over, but the land given out would now be able to have taxes collected from it. The U.S. forest service by itself currently owns over 190 million acres. That's enough land for over 4.5 million 40 acre parcels.

Reparations are a complete BS.

You can't make the case without being laughed out the room.

Reparations for slavery were paid in blood on the fields of Gettsyburg, Fredricksburg, Chattanooga, and Antietam.

They were and they were paid in blood, to the tune of 600k lives.

The interest has been paid during the well-intentioned, yet disastrous War on Poverty(tm) - much like its intellectually disabled cousin, War on Drugs(tm), WoP has SHATTERED black families and black communities, and this destruction has spread, like a cancer, to poor families/communities of all stripes.

If one had more confidence in Washington and politicians, one might believe (many do) that it was intentional. But, I see it as simply one bad policy after another, government creating problems in the name of solving them.

Sometimes, the answer is to do nothing or, at worst, stay the course and allow long term problems to be solved by tried and true methods. However, that's difficult to run on, as a matter of politics.

I see a glimmer of hope with conservative blacks standing up and saying, "Dammit - 50 years is enough. One definition of insanity is doing the same thing, over and over, and expecting different results."

Black families and communities were relatively intact at the beginning of the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s. If they had been left intact, with legal barriers removed, we would probably see a much more equitable distribution of poor people, middle class and wealthy. However, the liberal wing of the Democrat party felt it more prudent to buy/attempt to buy black votes for generations.

How's that working out for y'all, Big Scrub?

Actually, whatever reparations are owed should be offset by the inflation adjusted value of:

capital investment (purchase price of slave)
housing costs
medical care
clothing

As well as by the trillions spent on the "War on Poverty."

See...I can make ridiculous demands also.

I like the idea. Nobody currently nagging us for reparations is going to move to the forest. I'd probably pick up large tracts of land from the naggers for pennies on the dollar.

They already have reparations. It's called Affirmative Action.
