Cholly Mac was coaching when I was at LSU. The guy did well enough to be popular but his inability to beat Bryant eventually got him fired. Both were well established at their schools when they first met in 1964. The Bear won the first 5, Mac won a couple in 69-70, then Alabama won the next 9.

Saban is 6-3 overall, and on a 4 game win streak. One of Les's wins came against Saban's first year at Alabama when they came off a 7 loss year. So once geared up the guy has won 6 of the next 8 and if anybody thinks it's going to get much better soon they're dreaming.

If anything gets Miles canned it will be his record against Alabama, not against other SEC teams, particularly the West. I say 2 more loses and a more manageable buyout at that time puts him on the street.

That's probably right considered how Alabama-sessed so many LSU fans are. Its pretty embarrassing.

This will be the case whether Miles is here or not. Sorry folks... Saban will likely own anyone that replaces Miles (if that would ever happen). While Miles has had more attempts than anyone else, he is the only coach to beat Saban more than once since he's been at bama and he's done it 3 times.

If you want to bitch about Miles, quit bringing up bama. Everyone fricking loses to bama. The fact is that we've beaten them more than anyone else since Saban has been there (except Auburn- 3 different coaches). Miles gives us fans plenty to be pissed about, bama is the least of it.

Well to be fair, there was also the throbbing pro-Dietzel crowd that never accepted Cholly Mac and were all too vocal whenever the Bear's "skinny little boys" came to town and took the Tigers to task (most of the time). There weren't many who had the Bear's number back then, so losing to 'Bama alone was only part of the whole picture. Mac struggled with Ole Miss, esp. during the Vaught era and Archie's run. Florida and Auburn were mixed bags, we didn't play UGA or Tennessee much back then. And weren't totally dominant when we did. And then there was aTm, who we played most years even though they were SWC. Late in his tenure, aTm became a much stronger rival and could beat LSU. What became apparent was Coach Mac wasn't growing with football and his defenses were legend, but the offenses were a lot like CLM's offenses. Predictable, run-based (mostly) and just not impressive. He lost some big bowl games - one to Nebraska, and I think one to Penn State which if LSU had won, would have left us very high in the rankings. All in all, he got stale, the fans got tired, and the Dietzel people got loud.

A lot like what is going on now.

except much more successful

1 NC 2 Appearances to 0
Les has has 2 Sec champinship to Macs 1 in 8 less years.

A higher winning percentage
Recruits better
If we finish ranked he will have as many ranked season in 10 years as Charlie had in 18 (9)

And the comparison is good considering Dietzel left a very good team for McClendon.

I totally disagree. Who else has a better record in the country against Saban?? No one period. So what you are looking for is not out there period.

I too was at LSU when Coach Mac was fired. You are absolutely right about his being fired. And I'll admit to being one who wanted him gone. It was just plain embarrassing to be a Tiger fan because of Alabama.

Today I regret his firing. First, Alabama had Bear Bryant, one of the great coaches of all time. Second, Coach Mac had class and integrity. He brought no disgrace to LSU and near the end of his life showed his deep respect and love of LSU.

That memory hangs like a cloud over what's happening to Miles. We have unidentified problems. We're in a rebuilding year (why not admit it?). And yet Coach Miles just pours gas on the fire everytime he promises some kind of changes and they never happen. I thought he would change when Cam Cameron came aboard. He dropped the reins on John Chavis and the results have been outstanding. Offense is another story.

Coach Miles would do himself, his team, and Tiger fans a big favor by either saying nothing or really doing something. Why can't he just tell the truth? As fine a man as he is, he's a genuine enigma.

McClendan alterneted Bert Jones and hardly threw the ball.

Miles threw it with Mett. And Bert Jones was way better than Mett.
