I fish bait casters so I'm not too up to date on the spinning reels. I know shimano are good, but if you had that budget what would you go with? Shimano, fluger, diawa etc...It's for a gift.
Fishing the marsh for trouts and reds...

Shimano Symetre and a $100 rod. I like St Croix and the BPS Xtreme rods.

Which ever Shimano reel is around 100-120, in the 2500 size and a falcon coastal rod

get your rod at academy. regardless of brand. can walk in and exchange as long as you have receipt even if you just smashed it in a car door or something.

In my experience, you don't even need a receipt. Just walk in, tell the rod snapped when you hooked up with a big red, and bam, new rod.

Shimano is middle of the mall BS now. My dad recently bought a Penn and it's much smoother and can cast much further.

I'm not a fan of spin reels but my buddy swears by the penn battle combos at academy or bass pro.

My go-to is the Penn Spinfisher

I like falcon rods a lot too.

I wouldn't call Shimano middle of the mall crap. You can spend little to nothing and get a bliser pack pos or you can spend a lot and get a really nice reel. Same with Penn. I'm not sure how the Penn spinning reel casts a longer distance than a Shimano, the reel has very little to do with it.

Just telling it how I see it. We have about 8 shimano spinning reels and the camp and the Penn feels much better and much lighter. The jury is still out on how well it will hold up over time, but it's off to a solid start. Shimano baitcasters FTW though.

Falcon rods are still my go-to and will continue to be.

What's y'all's go-to size for spinning reels for inshore? 2500 or 4000?

I don't really have a preference. Pros and cons of both.

You're right, I may have overreacted a bit. Shimano is great quality stuff, I just give the slight edge to the Penn so far.

I have falcon coastals and castaways on my curados and calcutta. I just wasn't sure if there was a preference when it came to spinning rods.
Reel wise I don't have a clue with brand though. It's not going to be for big bull reds or anything. Just trout and marsh reds...

I have a Penn spinner that I use maybe once a year that is several years old. Never done any maintenance on it and it works just fine. Shimano baitcasters FTW!!

Bingo

I posted a website that had Symetres for $55 shipped last week but I think that sale is over. Symetres are right at $100 I believe

2500 unless you will be fishing the mouth of the passes in Venice.

We got into the 27" reds heavy 2 weeks ago and my 2500 Symetres handled them with relative ease. Fun as hell to catch too
